The Canyon Vista Middle School Library

The Canyon Vista Middle School Library 2017-2018 Canyon Vista

LIBRARIAN: Laura Stiles LIBRARY ASSISTANT:Middle Linda School Maddox

HOURS: 7:50-3:45 daily. Library

ABOUT OUR LIBRARY Our library is a busy place! We see approximately two hundred and thirty kids per day on independent visits and we host classes for checkout, research and information literacy lessons. We host an annual Book Fair as well as reading programs, contests and author visits. We offer books, audiobooks, magazines and e-books for checkout.

CIRCULATION You must have a current Student ID in hand in order to check out books, and you may check out up to five books at a time. Most books are checked out for a three week period; past issues of magazines are loaned out for one week. *You are responsible for turning library materials in on time.* Fines are not charged for overdue materials; however, additional materials may not be checked out until the items are returned or paid for and students are at risk of losing their internet connectivity if their obligation to the library is not resolved.

COMPUTER USE Library computers are for use by students for school purposes and school assignments only. All users must log in with a user name and ID number and may search the library catalog, access online databases or work on school projects. Black and white printing for up to five pages is free; beyond that, the cost is ten cents per page. Students may not check personal email from the Library computers and computer games may not be played on Library computers.

STUDENT ID BADGES Students receive one free student ID at the beginning of the year. Replacement IDs cost $5.00 and will display the same picture as the previous ID. IDs take about an hour to be made after you place your order.

MACKIN VIA and ONLINE DATABASES

Mackin VIA is an online program through which Canyon Vista students can access our e-books and online databases. Every Canyon Vista has (or will soon have) a Mackin VIA account. To log in, use your six-digit student ID number. Your password is your birthdate in this format: 01/01/2003.

The District and State provide us with subscription access to online periodicals, reference, newspaper, almanacs, maps, current events, educational testing, college reference, and encyclopedias in several languages. The information is reliable, timely and accurate; use of databases is suggested for school projects. They can be accessed through your student Mackin VIA account or by visiting the CVMS Library website. Access from home requires passwords unless the databases are being accessed through Mackin VIA. The passwords for home access are listed on the reverse side of this sheet.

How Can You Help the Canyon Vista Middle School Library Grow?

ADOPT-A-BOOK PROGRAM Donate a book in your child’s name and help the library program at the same time! The cost is $20.00 per book.

1). Return the attached form indicating your desire to participate in the Adopt-a-Book Program. 2). Your child may select a brand-new book from our collection in the library office (these books have library bindings and typically last longer than the ones bought at a bookstore). 3). A bookplate with the child’s name and the year donated will be added to the book and, if your child agrees, your donation will be featured on our daily scrolling announcements, 4). Your child will be the first one to check out the book.
