Compass Men’s Bible Study LESSON 1 Proverbs – Get Wisdom Read Proverbs 1:1-7 1) “The fear of the Lord” speaks of a reverent and loving obedience to the Lord and his will. Why is verse 7 so important? Describe the reasons why verse 7 is important utilizing the previous verses in the passage?

2) Reread Proverbs 1:1-6. What are the most important reasons from these verses for seeking godly wisdom? Explain in detail.

Day 2 Read Proverbs 1:20-33 3) List the warnings and the promises that are in today’s passage and describe in detail how someone obtains this promise. (See also the warnings in Deut. 28:63, Luke 16:24, Gal. 6:7–8)

4) How does godly wisdom (in today’s passages) connect with our understanding that the the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:8)?

Day 3 Read Proverbs 2:1-5 5) What are the requirements needed to receive wisdom?

6) Describe how you might put the requirements from verses 1 – 4 into practice.

Day 4 Read Proverbs 3:7-8, 9:10-12, 10:27, 28:14 7) Why do you think today’s verses (and the previous day’s verses) keep stressing that we are to fear the Lord?

8) What are the promises in today’s passages? Can you give examples of the sins revealed through the denial of wisdom?

9) How can the fear of the Lord prolong life? How do the consequences of sin shorten life? Consider 1 Cor. 6:14.

Day 5 Read Proverbs 14:26-27, 15:33, 16:6, 19:23

10) Scenario Question: You are meeting with a new believer for coffee and he is on fire for Jesus but does not see any reason why he should read the Old Testament or study Proverbs in particular. Describe in detail what you would you say to this, using verses from this week’s study. Try to explain how Jesus is revealed in these verses. Also consider 1 Corinthians 1:25, 1:30, Colossians 2:2-3.

Day 6 Read Proverbs 27:1 11) Describe the meaning of today’s verse. See James 4:13-17 12) Digging Deeper: Explore Proverbs 28:14 in depth. Look at Exodus 7:3, Psalm 95:8 and describe the meaning of Proverbs 28:14.
