THE UNITED NATIONS CHILDREN’S FUND (UNICEF) Invites applications for the following consultancy:

Community resilience and coping with climate change and natural disasters in Vanuatu

UNICEF Pacific is seeking an international consultant to provide support to the Department of Geology, Mines, and Water Resources and to the UNICEF Pacific – Vanuatu Field Office in water and sanitation sector monitoring, project implementation, drinking water safety planning, and information management. The consultant will be required to perform the following assignments  Support the establishment of a water, sanitation, and hygiene sector data collection and monitoring system, building on the ongoing water resources inventory  Assist DGMWR and the Tanna-based Project Coordinator in the implementation of the UNICEF-funded Water for Life in Tafea Province project  Assist DGMWR and UNICEF in the implementation and supervision of other water supply and sanitation projects as requested  Support DGMWR and other sector partners to prepare community drinking water safety plans (DWSPs) in all provinces:  Support information management and production of knowledge products at DGMWR and for the WASH Cluster

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIALISED KNOWLEDGE/COMPETENCE REQUIRED Qualifications - Degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geology, Hydrology, Sanitation Engineering, or a field relevant to WASH-related development assistance. - Additional training in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and Emergencies is considered an asset. Skills and Experience - Three to five years progressively responsible experience in project implementation, monitoring and supervision and evaluation or related field. - Experience in community mobilization, working with UN, Government and NGO partners is desirable. - Experience working in the water sector in the Vanuatu is an advantage. - Fluency in English required. Knowledge of the local language is an advantage. - UNICEF programmatic goals, visions, positions, policies and strategies. - Knowledge of global human rights issues, specifically relating to children and women, and the current UNCEF position and approaches. Knowledge of the latest theories, technology and practices in: - Water supply system and sanitation facility construction - Drinking water safety planning - Mobile data collection and mapping including use of open source and professional mapping software

REMUNERATION AND TYPE OF CONTRACT: The consultant will be required to work on a Purchase Order (PO) contract with UNICEF Pacific for 6 months. Remuneration and contract period will be agreed based on proposal submitted by successful consultant.
