Alwyn Jones Community Service Award – Guidelines
Preamble
Alwyn Jones was a well loved member of both the Armidale Uniting Church and the wider Armidale Dumaresq Area. He served on many local organisations.
The Alwyn Jones Community Service Award is jointly supported by the Armidale Uniting Church and the Armidale Dumaresq Council. The award is offered each year to an individual or organisation from the public who demonstrates an ongoing commitment to voluntary community service in the Armidale/ Dumaresq Council Area.
The Selection Committee role and responsibility
The Committee (no more than 6 members in total) consist of at least one representative from each of the following categories:-
Representative of the Jones Family
Representative from the Armidale Uniting Church community
Representative of the Armidale Dumaresq Council
A independent community member from the wider Armidale Dumaresq Community
The Armidale Uniting Church member (s) is nominated and endorsed at the annual Congregational meeting each year. If only 1 name is put forward then this person acts as chair of the committee and is responsible for co-opting the other committee members from the various categories. If there is more than one name put forward, then the Congregational meeting shall endorse one member to act as chair.
The committee will meet November to early December the year prior to review advertising material, the nomination form, the web site (both Armidale Uniting Church and the Armidale Dumaresq Council) and determine timing for the awards. Changes are made to reflect outcomes from these discussions. It is important that the award certificate and prizes are considered at this time. The footer in the nomination form must be updated at this time. Advertising should begin in January the year of the awards.
Timing of presentation, location and representatives
The awards are presented each year at the Armidale Uniting Church (as part of the normal Sunday morning service) with representatives from the committee present. The award presentations should take place in autumn when the trees in Armidale are changing colour as an ongoing tribute to Alwyn Jones.
