Kentucky Safe Schools Week Daily Announcements: (School announcements to encourage involvement in Kentucky Safe Schools Week 2014)

Day 1 – The theme for this year’s Kentucky Safe Schools Week (Oct. 19-25, 2014) is “Lean On Me; Stop the Bullying” on our school campuses. Please show your support and take the online “LEAN!” pledge at www.kysafeschool.org. This week we will focus on how each of us can be there for others to lean on in times of need. Every student and staff member at ______school can lend a helping hand, as we work together to stop the bullying in our schools and promote a safe, warm and welcoming environment. Students let’s support each other and connect with the staff in our school as we watch out for our fellow classmate(s) in need. In the song, “LEAN On Me” the lyrics say “sometimes in our lives we all have pain and we all have sorrow” but with the proper caring attitude let’s learn to depend on each other, trust the adults at school as we work together so that others will not feel alone. Let’s promote a “culture of kindness” and discuss the problems with a trusted adult before it gets out of hand, as we lean on each other to find a solution. Each day this week we will be concentrate on the individual letters of the word “L.E.A.N.!” and explain how each one involves another step toward reaching that goal.

Tomorrow we will talk about the letter “L” “L” Lean on others in my school when I need help, and allow others to lean on me!

Have a great day and remember we want to be there for others in need.

Day 2 – This week is Kentucky Safe Schools Week and we want you to join in and be part of the solution to the overall well-being of others in your school. Bullying should never be a part of anyone’s school day. Our concentration this week is to learn to help others by letting them know you are there for them when they need you. “Lean On Me; Stop the Bullying” is our theme for Safe Schools Week 2014. Please show your support and take the online “L.E.A.N.!” pledge at www.kysafeschool.org.

Today we are going to talk about the letter “L”, the first letter of the word “LEAN” I will strive to: “L” Lean on others in my school when I need help, and allow others to lean on me!

Sometimes it is really hard to share your feelings with others; so many times we pretend everything is fine. To share your problem with someone who cares can take that burden off your shoulders as you work together for a solution. Leaning on others is not weakness but the opposite, strength. It takes a strong person to share their problem with someone. You can be there for others and in turn realize others are there for you. No one needs to bear a problem alone. If someone is bullying you or you have other things that are causing you stress, share this so a solution can be reached. Again, remember the lyrics to the “Lean on Me” song as it says ““sometimes in our lives we all have pain and we all have sorrow”. Do not become a part of the problem in your school, but of the solution by leaning on others or letting them lean on you. Day 3 – Remember this is Kentucky Safe Schools Week and we want you to join in and be part of the solution to the overall well-being of others in your school. Bullying should never be a part of anyone’s school day. Our concentration this week is to learn to help others by letting them know you are there for them when they need you. “Lean On Me; Stop the Bullying” is our theme for Safe Schools Week 2014. Please show your support and take the online “L.E.A.N.!”pledge at www.kysafeschool.org..

Today we are going to talk about the letter “E”, the second letter of the word “LEAN” I will strive to: “E” – Excel at treating all students and staff how I want to be treated.

When you excel at something, it means you are really great at what you do. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if others always knew you were there for them? What a nice reputation to have and how wonderful you would feel to know that you are helping others. You can start by joining forces when someone is being mistreated and become a part of the solution instead of the problem. Our schools have policies and procedures in place if a problem is beyond our control. There are teachers, counselors, and administrators that want to know when a problem needs addressing so that your school will be safe. If we all work together we can accomplish so much more as you treat others the way we want to be treated. Learning to step up and support others who are in need can be as easy as leaving an online tip. Students can be a “Silent Hero” and help without getting involved if they fear someone will be mad at them or want to get back at them by retaliating.

Day 4 Wow, can you believe we are already looking at the 3rd letter of the word “LEAN” Remember this is Kentucky Safe Schools Week and we want you to join in and be part of the solution to the overall well-being of others in your school. Bullying should never be a part of anyone’s school day. Our concentration this week is to learn to help others by letting them know you are there for them when they need you. “Lean On Me; Stop the Bullying” is our theme for Safe Schools Week 2014. Please show your support and take the online “L.E,A.N.!” pledge at www.kysafeschool.org.

Today we are going to talk about the letter “A”, the third letter of the word “LEAN” I will strive to: “A” – Achieve relationships with adults in my school so I will feel safe.

I know sometimes we feel that adults just don’t understand and if we tell them a problem they won’t know what to do. The adults at your school really do care about you and want only what is best for you and your friends. If you achieve relationships with trustworthy adults at your school then you will feel more comfortable talking to them when you or someone you know is being bullied or has a serious problem. Telling does not make you a “tattle tale”, but instead it makes you someone who is concerned and wants to help them find someone they can lean on for help. As we said earlier, there are other options too. If you want to be anonymous so others will not know you have shared your concerns, you can always use your school tip line to tell an adult the problem. Just remember you can help your friends and others when they feel they do not have anywhere to turn by showing your support. A simple jester of kindness and caring can go a long way for someone who feels no one cares.

Day 5 Remember this is Kentucky Safe Schools Week and we want you to join in and be part of the solution to the overall well-being of others in your school. Bullying should never be a part of anyone’s school day. Our concentration this week has been to learn to help each other by letting them know you are there for them when they need you. “Lean On Me; Stop the Bullying” has been our theme for Safe Schools Week 2014. If you haven’t already, please show your support and take the online “Stop the Bullying” pledge at www.kysafeschool.org.

Today we are going to talk about the letter “N”, the fourth and last letter of the word “LEAN” I will strive to: “N” Notice and report when another needs help; tell an adult, send an online tip or use a bully/tip box.

You have the power to make a difference in your school’s safety. When we know something is not right, we should feel that we can make a difference and report it to someone who can help solve the problem. It may be bullying, cyberbullying, or anything else that is causing someone pain or sorrow. It is helpful if others know they can text you, call you, or send you an e-mail when they are being bullied by someone. Be the person they can lean on as you work with a trusted adult to help them reach a solution. If you would rather remain anonymous and don’t want anyone to know that you have reported or shared a problem, you can always send a tip on the school’s bully/tip line. By doing this you can be an important part of your school and others will soon see that they can lean on you for help.

Thanks for joining us by celebrating Kentucky Safe Schools Week and also for everything you do to help others make your school safe.
