Article 1, Chapter 3, Title 20 of the 1976 Code is 21 amended by adding: 22 23 “Section 20-3-129. The General Assembly recognizes that if 24 alimony is awarded, the award should be based on considerations 25 of equity. Awards of alimony should adequately respond to the 26 varied needs of modern society and seek to equitably resolve 27 disputes arising in all actions for divorce and separation. It is the 28 public policy of the State of South Carolina that, if alimony is 29 awarded, no one form of alimony is preferred over the other and in 30 consideration of all factors and evidence presented by the parties, 31 the award of alimony should protect the public interest and should 32 not benefit one individual over the other.” 33 34 SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the 35 Governor. 36 XX 37
