Section 312 – TESTS AND INSPECTIONS
312.9 Inspection and testing of backflow prevention assemblies. Inspections shall be made of all backflow prevention assemblies to determine whether they are operable. Reduced pressure principle backflow preventer assemblies, double check-valve assemblies, double-detector check-valve assemblies and pressure vacuum breaker assemblies shall be tested. The frequency of testing shall be determined in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions. Where the manufacturer of the assembly does not specify the frequency of testing, the assembly shall be tested at least annually. The testing procedure shall be performed in accordance with one of the following standards:
ASSE 5010 1013-1. Sections 1 and 2 RP (USC – 9th Edition) ASSE 5010 1015-1. Sections 1 and 2 DCVA – Duplex Gauge ASSE 5010 1015-2 DCVA – two hose method (NEWWA) ASSE 5010 1015-3. Sections 1 and 2 DCVA – single hose (USC) ASSE 5010 1015-4. Sections 1 and 2 DCVA – sight tube method ASSE 5010 1020-1. Sections 1 and 2 PVB (USC – 9th Edition) ASSE 5010 1047-1. Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 RPDA (USC – 9th Edition) ASSE 5010 1048-1. Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 DCDA – Duplex gauge ASSE 5010 1048-2 DCDA – two hose method (NEWWA) ASSE 5010 1048-3. Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 DCDA – single hose (USC) ASSE 5010 1048-4. Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 DCDA – sight tube method CSA B64.10

CHAPTER P6 WATER SUPPLY AND DISTRIBUTION
§P608.16.5 Connections to lawn irrigation systems. The potable water supply to lawn irrigation systems shall be protected against backflow by an atmospheric-type vacuum breaker, a pressure-type vacuum breaker or a reduced pressure principle backflow preventer. A valve shall not be installed downstream from an atmospheric vacuum breaker. Where chemicals are introduced into the system, the potable water supply shall be protected against backflow by a reduced pressure principle backflow preventer.
