Time and Place of Class Meetings: Architecture 301 TTh 9:30-11:20 AM
Description of Course Content: A studio course in design and construction detailing.
Student Learning Outcomes:
The students will gain knowledge about fabrication techniques, including casework and furniture construction.
The students will apply the conventions of construction drawing and detailing and develop the ability to communicate their own design intent to contractors and fabricators.
The students will evaluate various methods for constructing their designs and will fabricate designed, stable, and well-crafted constructions in the woodshop.
Requirements: Prerequisite: Senior standing in INTD
Required Textbooks and Other Course Materials: No textbooks are required for this course.
Descriptions of major assignments and examinations with due dates:
The coursework will include 4-5 short duration projects this semester. Each project will be weighted according to the number of class sessions dedicated to that assignment.
Grading Policy: Grades will be calculated as follows: A Excellent 86.66-93.33 B Good 76.66-86.65 C Average 66.66-76.65 D Below Average 56.65-66.65 F Failure 56.54 and below
In the School of Architecture, a grade of C of higher must be earned in each course used for credit toward an undergraduate degree. Grades are final and not negotiable.

Quality of Project Deliverables will comprise 70% of your grade. Demonstrate proficiency in all required woodshop techniques
Functional and programmatic resolution of the project objectives: Will the design be functional? Are the selected materials appropriate for their use? Can the completed project withstand its expected usage?
Fabrications are evidence of excellent craftsmanship and precise workmanship.
Work demonstrates a creative response to the project and is evidence of an active pursuit of the student’s project objectives.
Daily Work Ethic will comprise 30% of your grade. Timely completion of all class assignments
Participation in all project reviews
Efficient use of class time and consistent daily production of work
Attendance Policy: Class attendance is essential. Late arrivals and early departures do not constitute complete attendance.
Students are expected to work throughout class on the current assignment. Attendance at all class reviews and juries is mandatory.
It is the student’s responsibility to get any missed assignments from the instructor and to complete assignments on time.
Late Work Policy: No late work or project extensions will be granted because of absence, unless warranted by family emergency or health issues accompanied by a physician’s note. If an extension is not obtained, late work grades will be reduced by 50%.
Drop Policy: The Last Drop Date for undergraduates will occur at a point two-thirds of the way through a given semester or session. For Fall 2009, the Last Drop Date is Friday, October 30, which occurs at the end of the tenth week of classes. As usual, students are allowed to drop until 5:00 p.m. CST on that date.
Undergraduate students who drop a course on or before the Last Drop Date will receive an automatic grade of “W” regardless of whether they have completed assignments or not. Students seeking to drop a course will be advised to speak with the instructor of record and then, if deemed appropriate, proceed to the Academic Advisor for their major (or designee) who will complete the drop in the MyMav system. A “W” will be placed on the student record automatically by MyMav when the drop is entered.

Academic Integrity: It is the philosophy of The University of Texas at Arlington that academic dishonesty is a completely unacceptable mode of conduct and will not be tolerated in any form. All persons involved in academic dishonesty will be disciplined in accordance with University regulations and procedures. Discipline may include suspension or expulsion from the University.
"Scholastic dishonesty includes but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, collusion, the submission for credit of any work or materials that are attributable in whole or in part to another person, taking an examination for another person, any act designed to give unfair advantage to a student or the attempt to commit such acts." (Regents’ Rules and Regulations, Series 50101, Section 2.2)

Final Review Week: A period of five class days prior to the first day of final examinations in the long sessions shall be designated as Final Review Week. The purpose of this week is to allow students sufficient time to prepare for final examinations. During this week, there shall be no scheduled activities such as required field trips or performances; and no instructor shall assign any themes, research problems or exercises of similar scope that have a completion date during or following this week unless specified in the class syllabi. During Final Review Week, an instructor shall not give any examinations constituting 10% or more of the final grade, except makeup tests and laboratory examinations. In addition, no instructor shall give any portion of the final examination during Final Review Week. Classes are held as scheduled during this week and lectures and presentations may be given.

E-Culture Policy: The University of Texas at Arlington has adopted the University email address as an official means of communication with students. Through the use of email, UT-Arlington is able to provide students with relevant and timely information, designed to facilitate student success. In particular, important information concerning registration, financial aid, payment of bills, and graduation may be sent to students through email.
All students are assigned an email account and information about activating and using it is available at www.uta.edu/email. New students (first semester at UTA) are able to activate their email account 24 hours after registering for courses. There is no additional charge to students for using this account, and it remains active as long as a student is enrolled at UT-Arlington. Students are responsible for checking their email regularly.

Ownership and Exhibition of Student Work Accrediting boards require selective documentation of student coursework. All materials submitted for credit may be retained by the faculty and become property of the School of Architecture for future demonstration of student accomplishments.
