1.0 PURPOSE : The purpose of this SOP is to ensure that all processes performed within our Retail Store(s) are consistent and uniform. It will alleviate confusion and aid in the training of our associates. It will also enhance our customer service, increase sales, and ensure efforts are made to consistently provide our customers with greater and more frequent choices of product. Ultimately these procedures will protect the donations given to our Retail Store(s) from theft, damage, or any other harm.

2.0 INTENT : To provide those stores that have been equipped with balers and additional back room storage area to support the ability to produce bales of salvage textiles and cardboard the proper procedures on handling the materials and transfer of salvage stock.

4.0 PROCEDURES :

 Baler Operation: o Balers are to be operated by Goodwill employees only. o Operators must be 18 years of age or older. o Operators must be certified, and certification on file with Safety.  Cardboard: o Any store equipped with a baler is welcome to bale cardboard for direct sale. Choosing to do this however, entails the realization that you will need additional dedicated space.

o Bales of cardboard are then shipped to the warehouse or sold in the immediate area.

 Bales and Salvage Sales:

o Salvage textiles are baled on site in locations equipped with a baler.

o When there are enough bales on hand, management is to contact the warehouse to schedule a bale truck service.

o The warehouse staff will notify the store of the date of service, estimated time of arrival, and a release number.

o The store is responsible for scheduling a certified employee to load the truck.

o When the truck has been loaded, a Bill of Lading is completed, listing the amount of bales, the carrier name, release number, store number, and any other pertinent information. The manager on duty and the truck driver both sign. A copy is given to the driver. The original is scanned and sent to the warehouse and kept on file in store.

o At no time is anyone other than a certified Goodwill employee to operate the forklift.

o Salvage Shoe and Purse gaylords are to be shipped to the warehouse.

o A bill of lading is to be filled out with the count of gaylords of shoes, and the count of purses. The manager on duty and the truck driver both sign. A copy is given to the driver. The original is scanned and sent to the warehouse and kept on file in store.
