Butler2 Introduction The red-banded hairstreak, Calycopis cecrops (Fabricius), is a very attractive butterfly and one of our most common hairstreaks throughout the southeastern United States in dry open woods and wooded neighborhoods. Distribution The red-banded hairstreak is found from Maryland to southeast Kansas to eastern Texas and throughout Florida. As a stray, it is occasionally found as far north as southern Wisconsin and Minnesota. Figure 1. Adult red-banded hairstreak, Calycopis cecrops (Fabricius). Description Credits: Donald W. Hall, UF/IFAS Adults The wingspread of the adult is 24 to 30 mm (15/16–13/16 inches) (Opler and Malikul 1998). The under surface of the wings is gray-brown with a postmedial white line edged with a bright orange to red-orange band. Each hind wing has two tails (hairstreaks) with a relatively large conspicu- ous eyespot on the wing margin between the bases of the tails (Figure 1). The dataset published herein contains the label data for all North American specimens of Lycaenidae and Riodinidae residing at the Oregon State Arthropod Collection as of March 2019. A beta version of these data records will be made available on the OSAC server (http://osac.oregonstate.edu/IPT) at the time of this publication. The beta version will be replaced in the near future with an official release (version 1.0), which will be archived as a supplemental file to this paper. Methods Basic digitization protocols and metadata standards can be found in (Shepard et al. 2018). Identifications were confirmed by Jon Shepard and Paul Hammond prior to digitization. Nomenclature follows that of (Pelham 2008). Results The holdings in these two families are extensive. Combined, they make up 25,743 specimens (24,598 Lycanidae and 1145 Riodinidae). -

Acknowledgments Our research team has conducted butterfly surveys for nine consecutive years, from 2002 through 2010, with 2002-2004 introductory to the lands and species, and 2005-2010 in more depth. My valuable field team this year was composed of friends with sharp eyes and ready binoculars Larry Crowley who recorded not only the butterflies but blossoming plants and wildlife joined by Jean Morgan and Amy Chu both joined enthusiastic butterfly chasers. Venice Kelley and John Barr, professional photographers, joined us on many surveys. With their digital photos we are often able to classify the hard-to-identify butterflies later on at the desk. The surveys have been within Boulder County Parks and Open Space (BCPOS) lands. Therese Glowacki, Manager-Resource Manager, issued a Special Collection Permit for access into the Open Spaces; Susan Spaulding, Wildlife Specialist, oversaw research, maintained records of our monographs and organized seminars for presentation of data. -

Bashar, S. Rahman and H. R. Khan Environmental Biology and Biodiversity Laboratory (EBBL), Department of Zoology, University of Dhaka, Dhaka-1000, Bangladesh Abstract A laboratory examination was done on the morphometric variation of lycaenid butterflies. Identifying characteristics, viz. forewing length (FWL), hind wing length (HWL), body length (BdL) and antennal length (AntL) were used for the analysis. A total of 514 individuals of lycaenid butterflies was identified under two subfamilies Polyommatinae and Theclinae. Among them 265 individuals were placed under 19 species of Polyommatinae and 249 individuals under 25 species of Theclinae. ANOVA tests were conducted to find differences between the butterfly species of the two subfamilies through identifying characters like FWL (F=10.37, P=0.005), HWL (F=3.81, P=0.067), BdL (F=5.78, P=0.027) and AntL (F=2.77, P=0.114). A linear regression analysis of FWL, HWL, BdL and AntL of the species under the two subfamilies showed significant differences between Polyommatinae and Theclinae. These differences stand among the species of both the subfamilies and produced good results to identify the species more correctly. INTRODUCTION Morphometrics is the study of any quantitative measurement and analysis of morphological traits affecting on it (Digo et al. 2015). Lycaenidae is commonly known as „Gossamer-winged butterflies‟ comprising a huge number of species– an estimated 6,000 species worldwide, with greatest diversity in the tropics (Ackery and Vane-Wright 1984, Fiedler 1996). -

Its preferred habitat is sagebrush scrub and pinyon-juniper woodland in which their larval hostplants grow. The hostplants are various wild buckwheats (Eriogonum sp.). Due to the relative isolation and inaccessibility of its habitats, there are few identified threats. The most prominent threat is the intrusion of invasive alien weeds into the habitats, especially cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum), which can increase the frequency and intensity of wildfires.
