MINUTES

In attendance: Elisa Stephens, Taylor Hamilton, Catherine LaRoche, Stephanie Bonenberger, Courtney Murphy, Melissa Pompa, Andrew Shires, Nicole Kersting, Debby Kalbfleisch, Shannon Staten, Yoni Moise

Elisa Stephens welcomed everyone to the meeting. Melissa begins updating the committee on the carry-over items.

Credit Card: All registers will be converted to the new server by Christmas Break, meaning students will be able to use credit/debit cards when they return for the spring semester. All registers will accept credit/debit cards, with the exception of the College of Business.

Status of adding pizza at other locations other than Papa Johns: -Carry over item for January. New ideas should take shape by the Spring Semester.

Status of Organic Food Trial: The trials went really well. Melissa states that Chartwells will continue doing these trials until they can find a permanent location. Organic food is very expensive, but they would like to meet the needs of the students who eat this type of food.

Status of Combos in Every Location: Every location now offers combo meals.

Copies of Dining Guide for Residence Hall Forums Copies have been delivered.

Multi-Vitamins, Toiletries, Chartwells removed most of the toiletries last year, student’s complained because they can not sell toiletries for grocery store prices. Their prices are more comparable to convenient stores. West Campus and Outtakes did get some small packages of multi- vitamins.

Terrace Food Court Frequency Card: Melissa feels as if the card would attract students, and she would like to see more people there for dinner and breakfast, so she will discuss the idea of getting this card in her next management meeting. Scratch-off Card Promotion: This promotion has ended.

Reports and Comments: -The quality of coffee at the Tulip Tree Café is minimal. Students complain that all the Starbucks drinks taste the same. The drinks are nothing like what you get out at the original Starbucks locations. Melissa responds she will bring a Starbucks trainer back for additional training, as there has been some new staff added.

-Miller Hall has had trouble with Papa Johns delivery. A student had been quoted a 1hr wait. She waited 1hr and ½. She called Papa Johns and was put on hold for 20 minutes, transferred and then put on hold for another 10 minutes. She never received her pizza, until she went over to the SAC and then they gave her a pizza that wasn’t any good. Melissa asked that the student call or send her an email so she can print it out and send it to Papa Johns District Manager, so this issue can get addressed. The student’s card will also be refunded.

-Student reports that Papa John’s employees have been closing their gate early on Sundays at around 5pm.

-Everyone is pleased to hear that the locations will accept credit/debit cards.

-A staff constituent said there were slow lines at Subway on Monday around 2pm: 8 customers were in line and it took him 20 minutes to get through. There were more people working than not. There were several employees standing around.

-Justin would like to see the results for last month’s student surveys at the dining locations. Courtney comments that she will get the results for him. Melissa comments that there will be all new dinner menus for the Spring Semester, so she will send out another survey in January.

-One student comments that she had a fantastic experience at Subway. She commented that every employee was working, and she was in and out in five minutes.

-Students reported they’ve noticed on Sundays Outtakes has been closing 10 minutes early. It was mentioned that Wendy’s has also been known to close early on Sundays, and only offering chicken nuggets towards the end of the day.

-Residents forum surveys confirmed the above comment that the dining locations are closing 10 minutes early and only serving select foods. For example, Wendy’s only sells chicken nuggets around closing time. The forum survey also showed that students have problems receiving pizzas delivered from Papa Johns.

-One student suggested UofL use local vendors for the pizza and coffee instead of corporate giants like Papa Johns and Starbucks. She also states that students overwhelmingly asked for Starbucks versus the Ritazza. The sales at Starbucks exceed the sales at Ritazza.

-The “Keep Louisville Weird” Campaign is mentioned, which recommends that local businesses be supported.

-Student stated that if Papa John’s delivery problems can’t be figured out, then it should be discontinued. One student suggests that disorganization may be the issue. He reports that the Papa John’s pizzas he ordered were delivered for a meeting four hours early. Melissa responds that the management has not changed in the SAC; however, she will speak with the main store to see if there have been any management issues there that may be the cause of the sudden change in delivery.

-Melissa asks if anyone has any suggestions for new dinner foods. No response.

-Student suggests opening another dinner option, possibly over at Mitzi’s. Melissa responds that they are trying to attract people to the current all-you-can-eat facility. Mitzi’s being open at night or even later in the afternoon hasn’t worked in the past.

Elisa closes by announcing next meeting of Friday, January 12th; at noon in Miller Hall, Residence Center Conference Room.
