REGIMENTAL FOUNDATION EDUCATION GRANTS

1. The Regimental Foundation is again providing education grants to current serving Officers and NCM’s of the SALH. The amount of the scholarship is set at a maximum of $1000.00 per successful applicant, and the exact amount may be impacted by the number of successful applicants.

2. The following will be used as a guideline by the Foundation WRT the selection of deserving soldiers:

a. Class A members of the unit must have regularly paraded with the Regiment and not have been placed on NES during the period 1 Sep of the proceeding year and the submission deadline;

b. Class A SALH personnel attached to another unit will be eligible for the Grant, assuming that they meet the conditions stated at para 2a at their employing unit;

c. Applicants must have completed, or be in the process of completing their BMQ trg on 1 Nov of the application year;

d. Personnel transferred to the Regiment must have demonstrated commitment to the Regiment and have been on Regimental strength effective 1 Sep of the application year;

e. SALH personnel serving on Cl B or Cl C service between 1 Sep of the proceeding year and the submission deadline are eligible to apply for the Grant;

f. Class A personnel attached to the unit, dependants and cadets will not be eligible for the Grant; and

g. All applicants must be attending, at the time of submission, a recognized full time or part time program that will lead to a degree, diploma or a certificate for which a tuition fee has been assessed. Applicants who have completed recognized courses that commenced after 1 January of the preceding year will be considered on a case by case basis.

3. All submissions will be submitted through the chain of command and include appropriate recommendations. The following documentation is required for submission:

a. Copy of program enrollment and receipt documentation;

b. A written request from the member detailing the activities that the member has participated in both Regimentally (i.e. Training, exercises, etc.) and externally (i.e. community volunteer work, recruiting activity, ceremonial troop etc). The member must also indicate if he/she participated in the Regimental Foundation Casino held in 2013. For members employed outside of the Regiment, submissions must detail their contribution to the military and their respective unit of employment; and

1/2 c. A photocopy of the applicants birth certificate or drivers license; and

d. The applicants Social Insurance Number.

4. All completed submissions are to have been received by Adjt at Jefferson Armouries no later than 26 Nov 14. The Directors Board of the SALH Foundation will judge all applications based on the fore mentioned criteria and merit. Awarding of grants will be at the discretion of the Foundation Board. Grants will be awarded at the Soldiers Christmas dinner prior to holidays.

5. All personnel receiving a scholarship are expected to be actively involved in the next scheduled Regimental Foundation Casino.

6. Attached is a pro forma for completing the application. Any further questions of this benefit may be directed through your chain-of-command to the Regimental 2IC.

1. The following items are required for the education grant. Complete these items and return them with this form:

a. _____ Class A member has paraded a minimum of 70% of the allotted parade days from Sep 13 to Jun 14.

Class B and C personnel are exempt from these limitations;

b. _____ be in a recognized full time or part time program that will lead to a degree, diploma or a certificate for which a tuition fee has been assessed and be prepared to support the request with documentation;

c. _____ each applicant must provide a written statement as to the activities that the member has participated in Regimentally (Training, exercises, etc.). Those ERE Class A serving soldiers must also include activities that they participated in that promote the SALH at their attached unit/base. The letter may also include any outside activities such as community volunteer work, recruiting activity, ceremonial troop etc, which promoted the SALH in the community. Also include if the member participated in the Regimental Foundation Casino held in July 2011; and

d. _____ copy of the Document of Enrollment for their courses;

e. _____ copy of birth certificate or driver’s license.

2. The above documents will be delivered to Adjt at Jefferson Armoury no later than 26 Nov 14.
