A JOINT RESOLUTION naming a bridge in honor of Cecil Lewis, Sr. We pause to posthumously honor a fallen native son, Cecil Lewis, Sr. of Leslie County. WHEREAS, Cecil Lewis, Sr. was the son of John L. and Mary Lewis; and WHEREAS, born on January 21, 1918, Cecil Lewis, Sr. crossed that final bourne from which no traveler returns on September 22, 1997; and WHEREAS, Cecil Lewis, Sr. was the devoted husband of Ada and the loving father of fifteen children; and WHEREAS, Cecil Lewis, Sr. was a respected businessman and community leader active in the Masons organization; and WHEREAS, Cecil Lewis, Sr. was also known throughout Leslie County for his dedication to the local fish and game club, as well as for his inventions relating to fishing lures; and WHEREAS, Cecil Lewis, Sr. was a friend to all and his absence from the community grows with each passing year; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet is directed to name the bridge located on Kentucky Route 699 in Leslie County, five and one-half miles southeast of the intersection of Kentucky Route 699 and Kentucky Route 80, "The Cecil Lewis, Sr. Memorial Bridge." Section 2. The Transportation Cabinet shall, within thirty (30) days of the effective date of this Resolution, erect signs at each approach to the bridge located on Kentucky Route 699 in Leslie County, five and one-half miles southeast of the intersection of Kentucky Route 699 and Kentucky Route 80, that read "The Cecil Lewis, Sr. Memorial Bridge."
