THE LADIES HAD THE OPTION TO WEAR A HIJAB FOR SERVICES AT THE MOSQUE. OUT OF BOTH COMMUNITY INFORMATION RESPECT AND CURIOSITY, THEY ALL WORE ONE. By Julia Carriger Two Fridays ago, the middle school class went on a field trip to the Islamic Center. We took a quick tour of the building before being greeted by the Imam Sameh Asal. Imam Asal gave a lecture about the role of Mary and Jesus in the Qu’ran and showed us a presentation of a Qu’ran reading, which he translated. We were very thankful to have been served lunch at the center. The Islamic Center staff provided us with a variety of pizzas from Sinbad’s Pizzeria and soda to drink. It was delicious! A big thanks goes out to the wonderful, kind, and generous staff. To end our visit, we sat in on a religious service. It was educational and eye-opening, and we took lots from it. This trip was educational, fun, and unforgettable. It was a great way to finish our unit on religions.

Early Pick Up: In the instance that you need to pick up your child early because of an appointment, please send an email or a note in with your child. Knowing this information beforehand is important in helping your child be ready to leave on time with minimal disruption to the work that we are doing. If at all possible, we ask that you schedule all appointments during non-school hours. If scheduling appointments during the day is unavoidable, please try and schedule appointments for in the morning. Math and Spanish are easier for your child to work on in advance or at home.

Outdoor Time in the Winter: Time outside during the winter is inevitable in the Middle School. Appropriate attire is very important. Students should have layers of clothing to adjust to the variable weather conditions. Keeping mittens, socks, and hats at school is helpful during winter months.. Please do not send your child to school if they are not well enough for outdoor activities. After School Transportation: Please let your child know if they need to go to PLUS before the start of school. It is helpful for us to know how many are going so we can make the appropriate adjustments to the schedule without having students needing to call home at the end of the day. If there is a change to your plan, please contact me as soon as you can via text message 253-228-4616 as I am generally not at my computer at the end of the day until after the student have been picked up. Dates to Remember This Month 2 February 2 Library: We will be headed downtown to the library. Please make sure that your child has their library card, and any money that they need to pay fines. Students will not be allowed to share cards with each other, so please make sure they have what they need in order to check out books for their research projects.

February 9 Parent Ed Night: Please join us for a special all-school parent education night. Childcare will be provided free of charge. We will be discussing Montessori Outcomes. Watch for more information coming soon from the Co-Directors.

February 11 Unit Presentations: You are invited to join us for our Plant Unit Presentations. Presentations will start at 9am and last until about 11. If you can only pop in for a short period of time, I can give you a rough estimate of when your child will be presenting if you can only come for a short time.
