CALCULATORS:

Instruction in this course will incorporate basic scientific calculator skills. The State will not allow the use of graphing calculators on the benchmark tests nor the EOCT in the spring. Thus, we will primarily use the TI- 36X Pro Multi-view calculator. Occasionally we will use a graphing calculator for exploration but you will not be expected to have one for this class. Graphing calculators are currently allowed on national tests (SAT, ACT). LASSITER HIGH SCHOOL GAINES 2014-2015

GRADING POLICY: %

Major Assessments...... 50% Minor Assessments...... 20% Homework / Tasks...... 15% Fall Final & Midterm Exam...... 15%

 Major Assessments: This will consist mostly but not exclusively of tests and some culminating tasks.

 Minor Assessments: These consist primarily of quizzes, but could include any assignment at the teacher’s discretion.

 Homework/Tasks: These consist primarily of homework assignments and learning tasks to be completed either in class or at home (though many learning tasks are group assignments, each student is responsible for the entire task).

 Fall Midterm & Final Exam: There will be a cumulative assessment, both at the midway point and the conclusion of the fall semester.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:

A student who is present and actively participates is more likely to be successful; however, if a student is absent, he/she has one day for each day of excused absence to make up the work. (For example, a student absent 2 days would have 2 days to make-up the work.) Students are responsible for checking the blog for missed assignments or notes. A student with an unexcused absence may ask for assignments and may choose to complete them in order to keep up with the class. However, the teacher is under no obligation to grade the work.

HOMEWORK POLICY:

Homework is a very important part of a student’s education and is necessary for students reach their full potential. Students should expect to have homework assignments every night and it will be graded for completion and accuracy periodically. At the end of each unit I will put a cumulative homework grade into the grade book.

MAKE-UP POLICY:

Make-ups tests are done before school on Tuesday 7:15 to 8:15 or Thursday after school 3:30 to 4:25 in an assigned room (can be found on the math department door). Students who are in ISS when a test or quiz is scheduled are expected to take the assessment while in ISS.

LATE WORK POLICY:

Late work will not be accepted. LASSITER HIGH SCHOOL GAINES 2014-2015

TARDY POLICY:

To avoid being counted tardy, students must be seated and ready for class when the bell rings. If you are tardy for any reason, you must check in on the LAS in PPO or the administrative office by the cafeteria.

EXTRA HELP:

This is intended for those students who are working hard in class and attempting to do homework. If you will let me know in advance of your intention to come in ahead of time, I can inform you about meetings or conferences that might cause a conflict. (Additional help will be available during 4th and 7th period)

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:

Cheating is considered a serious matter. The parents of a student who has been involved in cheating will be notified and the student will receive a grade of zero for the test or evaluation period, and a grade of U in conduct.

For this course, cheating is defined as, but is not limited to, the following acts:

. Copying anyone’s answers to questions, exercises, study guides, tasks, classwork or homework assignments. . Looking onto another student’s paper during a test or quiz. . Having available any study notes or other test aids during a test or quiz without the teacher's permission. . Collaborating on assignments when independent work is expected (including a tutor). . Obtaining or using another students graded test or quiz to assist with a make-up test or quiz. . If a CELL PHONE is visible during any test and/or quiz, the student will be given a zero for that test or quiz.
