Standards Based Grading System for Mrs. Bruins’s Math Classes
Tests
Standards tests will make up 80% of your grade
Each topic on the test will be worth a maximum score of 4 points.
A list of topics on the test will be posted in advance on the online classroom.
Grades will be entered into Infinite Campus by topic. When you view IC you will see each topic and a score out of 4.
It will be clear from IC what your areas of strength and weakness are.
Each test will also have one section of review topics. This section will also be worth between 4 and 8 points. It will be entered into IC as “Review.”
Grades will be based on fewer points than normal.
Test Retakes
You have the option to retake tests
You only have to re-take the topics that you missed questions on
You will have to re-do all questions on that topic
In order to re-take the test, you will need to make corrections on the questions you missed and practice extra problems on that same topic. Corrections and extra work will need to be completed and turned in a day before you retake a test. If corrections are not done well, you will have to re-do the work before re-taking a test.
You will only get one chance to re-take a test.
There will be a deadline a week before the end of the term for re-takes. The deadline will be posted on the board in advance.
Assignments
There will be daily assignments that need to be completed on time
Assignments are an opportunity to develop skills and correct misunderstandings without a penalty to your grade
I will keep a record of assignment completion
It is essential that you are practicing skills daily so you can participate in class activities and do not fall behind. I do not give excessively long assignments or busy work.
Assignments will make up 10% of each term grade. Projects or open response questions may be taken for a grade
EOC Preparation
10% of your grade will be made up of assignments, quizzes, or tests designed to prepare you for the End of Course test
These assessments can include any topics covered up to that point in the year and it is teacher discretion as to whether these assessments can be re-taken
In Algebra 2 there is a state wide End of Course Assessment. This exam counts for 20% of the final grade as designated by the school board.
