Credit Value: 1 credit Hours: 110 Expectations This course emphasizes the further development of oral communication, reading and writing skills. Students will build on and apply their knowledge of French while exploring a variety of themes such as relationships, social trends and careers. Thematic readings, which include a selection of short stories and articles and poems, will serve as stepping-stones to oral and written activities.
Specific Expectations By the end of this course, students will have developed new skills and knowledge of French in the following categories: listen, read and respond to short, structured spoken and written texts; listen and respond to a variety of short, simple, non-structured media works; express ideas and opinions in short conversations, teacher-guided discussions and written texts; make oral presentations on a variety of topics; create short, simple written texts in structured and open-ended situations; and identify and use appropriate language conventions during oral, reading and writing activities.

Accommodations for Exceptional Students The French department makes every effort to accommodate the identified needs of exceptional (IPRC’d) students and will attempt to differentiate curriculum delivery methods, student modes of expression, and assessment methods as recommended by the student’s individual education plan (IEP).
Career Planning The French department makes every effort to ensure students are aware of career opportunities related to various fields of French.

Evaluation Students will be evaluated using the suggested categories and approximate percentages listed below:

Teaching Strategies A combination of several methods appropriate to the subject matter will be used including: lectures, homework assignments, projects, audio-visual material, and research.
Students are expected to attend classes regularly, participate in class activities and submit all assignments on time.
