Each daily assignment is a crucial aspect for success. I encourage students to do all the assigned homework completely, neatly and carefully. Assignments will be given and checked daily either for completion or taken up for a grade. If a student fails to do an assignment they will receive a zero. Late assignments without an excused absence will not be accepted. Preparedness: All students need to come prepared to class with all class materials listed previously. This is considered part of the daily assignment and will count as part of the homework grade. Journals: Upon entering the classroom everyday, students will find a prompt on the screen, board, or on their desk. These journal entries should be started before or when the bell rings. Most prompts will be a review from the previous school day’s lesson or review for a quiz or test. Journal entries are required. All journal entries should be completed in a student’s composition book which remains in the classroom. CAPE Cash: CAPE stands for Class Attitude, Participation, and Effort. CAPE cash is a system to fairly assess a student’s attitude, participation, and effort during a class period. $100 of CAPE cash is distributed at the beginning of each week. If a student should fail to follow the class rules, they will lose $10 for each infraction. At the end of that week, the CAPE cash is collected. The amount of cash returned represents the student’s grade for the week. For example: $100 = 100%, $90 = 90%, etc. Make-Up Work: Announced work, such as homework, quizzes, tests, and other major assessments are due the day the student returns. For each day’s excused absence, the student will have one day to make up missed work plus one. Upon returning to class, it is the student’s responsibility to check with another student or the assignment calendar on the bulletin board for missed work. Students can always check the class website for assignments when absent. Extra Help: I am available by appointment from 8:30 to 9 AM to assist students seeking additional assistance. Parents: If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Studies show that parental involvement in a child’s education is one of the strongest indicators of student achievement. The school has planned several student and parent resource nights in order to bridge the communication between school and home. I certainly hope you can make it a priority to attend as many school-sponsored events as possible. Please refer to the school’s website for these important dates. Students: It is my goal that each and every one of you be successful -- successful with the material content, successful with class conduct, successful with respect for one another, and successful with life. If we work together and give 100% effort in and outside the classroom, I promise that everyone will reach their own potential. You can be successful. Your excellence will influence others.

I am so excited to get to know you and to begin a new school year filled with opportunities and challenges. Let’s work together to make this the best year ever! Yours Sincerely, Susan K. LaPointe Please complete the form below verifying that you and a parent have reviewed this syllabus.
