Graduate student in the University of Maryland’s Child Stress & Emotions Laboratory examining neuroendocrine functioning and risk for psychopathology in early childhood. Responsibilities include: administration of tasks assessing temperament, emotionality, memory, executive function, and cortisol reactivity in children, coding child stress reactivity tasks and parent speech tasks. Additional responsibilities include leading weekly coding meetings, supervising, and training undergraduate research assistants. Additionally, duties include conduction of fMRI screenings and scans.

June 2013 – August 2014 Faculty Research Assistant Child Stress And Emotions Laboratory Department of Psychology, University of Maryland Principal Investigator: Dr. Lea Dougherty

Involved in the coordination and execution of three studies for Dr. Lea Dougherty’s clinical psychology laboratory, all of which examine early childhood risk for psychopathology:

1) The Child Stress and Emotions Longitudinal Study sought to examine temperamental, familial, and environmental correlates of the cortisol stress response, how these factors relate to functioning in children, and how they predict risk of psychopathology and resiliency. My responsibilities for this project included the preparation of manuscripts and posters; administration of tasks assessing temperament, emotionality, memory, executive function, and cortisol reactivity in children; management of lab functioning; supervision of undergraduate research assistants; training undergraduates in the Laboratory Temperament Assessment Battery (Lab- TAB) coding system; participant recruitment; and coordination of participant incentives. 2) The Neural Bases of Emotion Regulation Study sought to understand the neural underpinnings of children’s emotions, including anticipation and reward, through functional MRI examination. My responsibilities for this project included: conduction of fMRI visits; administration of pilot behavioral tasks; conduction of fMRI screening; scheduling and consenting fMRI participants and parents; and handling participant incentives. I also attended an fMRI safety training at the Maryland Neuroimaging Center.

3) The Preschool Anxiety and Mood Daily Diary Study assessed preschool- aged children’s behaviors and emotions via a longitudinal, 14-day diary, examining predictors of these behaviors and emotions based on parent- reports. My duties for this study involved: data cleaning; tracking day-to- day participant diaries via Qualtrics; participant recruitment; and coordination of materials and payment with collaborators at the Califonia State University, San Marcos.

Fall 2011 – Research Coordinator and Research Assistant Spring 2013 Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health School of Public Health, University of Maryland Principal Investigator: Dr. Donald Milton

With funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Got Flu? study examined the influenza virus and its modes of transmission among humans. I recruited and scheduled individuals potentially infected with influenza or respiratory syncytial virus, administered participant medical history questionnaires, performed nasal and throat swabs for the collection of flu particles, and supervised undergraduate research assistants.

Winter 2011 – Research Assistant Summer 2012 Decision, Attention, Memory Lab Department of Psychology, University of Maryland Principal Investigator: Dr. Tracy Tomlinson

Responsibilities included: participant scheduling; administration of computerized task protocols to participants; coordination of academic credit for participants; and protocol development.

Fall 2010 - Research Assistant Summer 2011 Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation Calverton, MD Principal Investigator: Dr. Mark Johnson

I assisted in Dr. Johnson’s alcohol research examining the entry-exit method of social psychological survey research on blood alcohol concentration in college populations. In this capacity, I was involved in active recruitment of participants for administration of field surveys, performed Breathalyzer tests, and handled participant incentives. Summer 2010 - Research Assistant Summer 2011 The Kennedy Krieger Institute Neuroscience Department, Baltimore, MD Principal Investigator: Dr. Michael V. Johnston

I aided in the investigation of the effects of excitotoxic brain injury in a neonatal mouse model on glutamate receptors in order to develop a drug aimed at treating cerebral palsy-induced brain injury and reducing neuronal damage. My duties included: performance of perfusions and induction of hypoxic ischemia in mice; extraction of brain tissue; sectioning and staining of brain tissue; utilization of PCR analysis; maintenance of a mouse colony, including euthanizations, breedings, and tattooing.
