Initial Steps for Developing a North Dakota Practice-Based Research Network Meeting Notes

Project Goal: Develop a North Dakota Practice-based Research Network. Group Chair- Mary Wright 1. Introductions: Kyle Martin, Karen Robinson, Kami Peterson, Mary Wright, Patricia Moulton, Shila Thompson

The group thought that we should have presenters write their own two minute introduction including educational background, experience related to topic, location etc. This would be used by the committee member that is introducing them.

 Introductions and Background about Research Network Concept- Patricia would lead this and include a short presentation about Research Networks, our comparison document to get the audience thinking over the next day about our statewide network  Keynote Speaker- Maria Shirey- Distinguishing between Quality Improvement, Evidence Based Practice and Nursing Research- will send Powerpoint slides by September 15th Who would like to introduce Maria? Field questions using Townhall format? Mary Wright to introduce, Will need people to get papers from attendees, Timekeeper: Have her mention her research network in her talk  Update on ND QI, EBP and Nursing Research Panel Presenters- Patricia can get a title from each one. Who would like to introduce the panel and facilitate questions? Becky Brodell? Timekeeper: ND QI- Jody Ward from the ND Quality Network has agreed to present EBP- Sanford Bismarck has been in touch and is working on it Research- Glenda Lindseth from UND has agreed to present  Qualitative Research Session- Maria included a full presentation in her contract- so Mary W. and I thought we should just feature her and we can do a quantitative presenter next year. Same person to introduce Maria this time? Mary Wright  Breakout sessions- based on abstract submissions Who would like to introduce these? Need three people- wait until September when we have our abstracts to finalize. Shila Thompson might be interested if she is not presenting  Poster Reception and Appetizers- According to call for abstracts, posters will be setup prior to the start of conference. We can have them on the walls with blue painters tape or set up on tables around the room. Do we need to plan anything for this session? Wait until September when we know how many we will have  Steps for Getting Started, the Research Process and Keeping the Momentum- Panel Discussion- Who would like to introduce this panel?Jacque Mangnall could introduce and facilitate Who are we going to have on this panel (Could be members of this committee)? Karen Robinson, Karen Rohr, Loretta Heuer, Patricia Moulton- group would meet and discuss how to do the panel- Patricia can email them and can facilitate a meeting of these 4 We would like to have some audience participation- maybe fielding questions from the audience- Townhall format? Possible Topics- o building your team (utilizing individuals that haven’t done research), what makes a good team, strengthening your team and carrying it out o determining your topic and your research questions and your purpose, o funding o statistician and other resources needed, o differentiating QI, EBP and Nursing Research for IRB (so include IRB information) o mentoring o dissemination o Analyzing the data, connecting findings to nursing significance.  Introduction to Research Networks and PBRNS- Patricia will develop this presentation  Next Steps for the ND Statewide Nursing Research Network- Interactive Group Session- Patricia is going to an art of hosting training in September- might pick up some new techniques to try out here.  Meeting in Research Interest Area Small Groups- how should we split into these groups? Could have people declare their interest area and set up a space before the break- maybe see who is registering for the conference and decide then. Could be by topic or it could be qualitative versus quantitative

Conference Planning Logistics- will need to work on some of these at the September meeting too  Date: October 23-24, 2014  Location: Bismarck Public Schools Career Academy- space reserved  Title: Transforming and Improving Health and Health Care through Quality Improvement, Evidence Based Practice and Nursing Research  Keynote Speaker: Maria Shirey- the University of Alabama at Birmingham- is confirmed, contract signed, airline and hotel reservations made  Hotel Room block- We have a block of rooms at Hampton Inn until October 1st.  Catering- Report from Susan- there is no kitchen on site, can have any caterer- Bismarck State has good catering- Patricia will work with Susan on getting the catering figured out  Registration Website is up- Click to go to registration website  Marketing Plan- Click to download.  Call for Abstracts Status- click to view, call has been disseminated in enewsletter, on website, to CUNEA, NDONE, Leadership Team- only have 2 submitted as of this meeting  Conference Packets- paperless with only agenda and evaluation forms- post rest on website? Would need Agenda, Participant List, QI, EBP and Nursing Research Definitions Document, Copies of presenter slides, Small group worksheets, Evaluation Forms, List of restaurants from Bismarck CVB?, Do we want info about STT chapters and contacts and other resources?  Contact hours- Patricia and Mary will work on completing application form and creating certificates  Sponsors- what do we want to offer sponsors? Exhibit space, recognition on slides? How many sponsors do we want? Fundraising group is going to work on sponsors for all of our events Qualtrix-Mary Wright, Stryker- Patricia,  Door Prizes- are we going to have any?  Bismarck Visitors Centers-Susan- they can make large banner, can have visitor packets available  Parking- Participants will need to park at technical center  Setup of rooms- Patricia can draw up a diagram of the setup of the three rooms for setup  Help during conference- Registration Table- MC for event- Runners- Transport Maria to and from Hotel-
