GOLDEN ISLES SPEEDWAY 440 SERIES RULES 2014

1. The purpose of the 440 Series is to provide an entry level stock car racing experience for NEW NOVICE BEGINNER and INEXPERIENCED DRIVERS. You will be racing for a trophy. (If you get carried away with building your race car you will find yourself in the Mini Stock Division.) This class is a beginner type class. It is for new drivers to get in and have a good time for very little expense. We do not want professional or experienced drivers to get in this class. We will not allow an experienced driver to dominate the class. SPECIFICATIONS - ALL CARS MUST REMAIN COMPLETELY STOCK

1. Any four-cylinder car, van or truck is eligible. Domestic or foreign. Front wheel or rear wheel drive. No four-wheel or all-wheel drives allowed. No mini stock, turbo, pro mods allowed.

2. Roll cage: All cars/trucks are required to have a roll cage. All cages must be constructed of black iron pipe or seamless steel round tubing with a minimum outside diameter of 1.5” and a minimum wall thickness of .083. No conduit, exhaust, galvanized or aluminum pipe allowed. A minimum of a four point roll cage is required. (That is four vertical bars welded to the frame inside the driver’s compartment). A rear hoop behind the driver’s head welded to the two rear vertical bars is required. A front hoop following the contour of the driver’s side windshield post and top of the windshield welded to the front two vertical bars is also required. Four top bars are required. A minimum of four (4) horizontal bars are required IN the driver’s side door and three (3) horizontal bars are required IN the passenger side door. All connections to be fully welded with gussets installed. Roll bar installation and workmanship must be approved. It is recommended that the roll cage be mounted to a box tubing frame run inside driver’s compartment. Box tubing must be securely welded to floor pan and roll cage.

3. No modifications to the engine, chassis or suspension. Everything must remain stock. No racing parts, trick parts, gadgets or performance equipment of any kind allowed.

4. No bracing, push bars, trailer hitches or reinforcement of any kind allowed.

5. Stock transmissions only. No oil coolers allowed.

6. All inner sheet metal must remain in place. All holes in firewall and floor boards must be sealed off.

7. Battery must remain in stock position under the hood or securely mounted and enclosed in the driver’s compartment.

8. All glass must be removed (windshield is optional). If windshield is removed, must weld a minimum of three window bars in front of driver. Heavy screen may also be used for front windshield, but bars must be in place.

9. All exterior glass, plastic and lenses must be removed.

10. Driver compartment must be sealed off from the trunk area. 11. Racing seat, properly mounted is required. Five point safety harness with proper mounting is required.

12. Bumpers must be chained or wired to car to reduce loss during the race.

13. Tires must be DOT standard production—maximum 70 series (no tolerances). No directional, high performance, racing, recaps or soft compound tires. The minimum hardness is 65 (the track durometer is the official durometer).

14. Larger wheel studs and lug nut recommended. No racing wheels.

15. If gas tank is in front of rear axle tube, leave in place. If gas tank is behind the rear axle and exposed, must remove and place in the trunk or place a plastic tank in trunk compartment. All tanks placed in the trunk must be fastened securely and the trunk must be sealed off from the driver with sheet metal.

16. All cars must register a one or two digit number for their race car.

17. 440 drivers will use a “Raceceiver”. This will allow the control tower officials to communicate with each driver. The “Raceceiver” is available for purchase from GIS parts trailers.

18. Car Claim: Any driver finishing on the lead lap of the feature race may claim another driver’s car for $700 and exchange of their racecar. The claim must be paid in cash or by certified check and the driver being claimed must have finished in front of the claiming driver. The car being exchanged must be in good working order and ready to compete again. If there are any apparent problems with the race car, the claim will be disallowed.

a. The claim includes the entire racecar. Each driver is allowed to keep their racing seat, five point harnesses and safety equipment (i.e. window net, fire extinguisher). Everything else goes with the car. This is the same for both sides of the claim including the claimer’s exchange car.

b. In the case of multiple claims on the same car a blind draw will be used to determine who retains the car claim. All parties must be ready with cash or certified check at the initial time of the claim.

c. Refusal to accept the claim will result in immediate disqualification of the claimee for the event.

d. A driver must have competed at the track the previous three race events to be eligible to claim another driver’s car.

e. The chief steward has the right to refuse any claim. GIS will not allow the claim rule to be abused. 20. GIS reserves the right to purchase any of the top five finishing cars for $750. If the car is purchased, the driver may keep the safety seat, harness and other safety equipment (i.e. window net, fire extinguisher). Everything else goes with the car. 21. If any driver wins more than three (3) feature races during the race season, the track has the option to purchase the competitor’s car in it’s race ready condition for $750.

DRIVER ELIGIBILITY & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS 1. Drivers who are 17 years or younger, must furnish a parent/guardian release form prior to racing. These forms can be obtained at the GIS offices or by calling Darryl Courson @ 912-242-8000.

2. Driver must use a Snell approved helmet. Fire retardant suits are required. You will not be allowed to race without the required safety requirements.
