Course Information Catalog Course Description BCT1705 Contracts, Codes and Specifications (3 credits) Recommended Prerequisite: ETC 1251 Covers organization and operation of architect's, engineer's, or contractor's office and includes study of office practices, codes, standards, specifications, and legal documents related to the construction industry.

Meetings: Room 11-239, 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Wednesday evenings, 15 weeks.

Presentation Report: The intent of this assignment is to supplement and expand upon the materials covered in the course. After researching a construction project or process, the student will write a report of at least 250 words, and include photographs or literature to illustrate the project and findings. On the night designated by the Instructor (timed to coincide with chapter topics), the student will undertake a maximum 10-minute presentation to the class covering their chosen subject. Students are encouraged to use PowerPoint, Prezi, self-made videos, or other visual aids to describe their topic; one-page handouts with a summary of highlights are encouraged – please provide a copy for each student in the class. Please see the Instructor well in advance of your scheduled presentation time if research is difficult or public speaking is a problem. EVALUATION

Assignments: Students will be required to complete at least one Presentation during the course, covering research on a specific building code related-issue; handouts will establish the criteria. Students may be tested with chapter quizzes, plus Mid-Term and Final Examinations.

Your final average will be valued according to the following grading scale: Course Grade: Grading Scale: 15% - Quizzes/Discussion Posts 90 - 100 % = A 15% - In-class Activities & Projects 80 - 89.9 % = B 20% - REPORT Presentation 70 - 79.9 % = C 40% - Exams (2 - Midterm & Final) 60 - 69.9 % = D 10% - Participation/Attendance 0 - 59.9 % = F
