    FØRSTE ARTISTER KLARE FOR INFERNO METAL FESTIVAL 2016 Vi er stolte av å kunne presentere de fem første bandene for Inferno Metal Festival 2016 – som vil finne sted i Oslo, i påsken fra 23. til 26. mars 2016! Dette vil være 16. gang vår ikoniske festival blir holdt og som vanlig forventer vi besøkende og fans fra hele verden. Det første bandet vi presenterer er det legendariske norske black metal-bandet MAYHEM! Det blir også old school thrash metal med EXODUS, som besøker Inferno Metal Festival for første gang i sin over 35 års lange historie. Den blasfemiske svenske black metal- krigsmaskinen MARDUK vil få alle til å føle seg utrygge når de entrer scenen på Rockefeller. Mannen med den mektige stemmen, ICS VORTEX, vil gjøre sin første opptreden på Inferno Metal Festival med sitt soloprosjekt. Som vanlig vil vi presentere noe nytt fra undergrunnen. Denne gang får vi besøk fra det polske industrielle black metal-bandet THAW som kommer til Inferno Metal Festival for å vise seg verdig! Vi sees på Inferno Metal Festival i 2016! MAYHEM Det er liten tvil om at Mayhem er et av de mest legendariske og kontroversielle bandene som kommer fra Norge. De er en av de mest innflytelsesrike ekstreme metal-band innen for sjangeren og er grunnen til at norsk black metal har erobret verden. Selv med sin beryktede fortid - bandet står fortsatt sterkt etter mer enn 30 år med kaos. Tross alt; musikken taler for seg selv. Med klassiske låter fra "Pure Fucking Armageddon", "Deathcrush" og "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" til nyere materiale fra "Grand Declaration of War" til "Esoteric Warfare", har bandet en stor backkatalog som det står respekt av.

    Late 1960's - Early 1970's The birth of heavy metal. Groups like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple were the first heavy metal bands. Late 1970's The rise of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest become very popular. 1978 Van Halen released their debut album. This began the Los Angeles/Sunset Strip scene, and many bands would come out of this era, including Motley Crue and Quiet Riot. The so called "hair bands" like Poison, Warrant and Ratt came from that scene as well. The Who's Keith Moon died. Bands formed this year: Dokken, Ratt, Whitesnake A sample of heavy metal albums released in 1978: Black Sabbath - Never Say Die Judas Priest - Stained Class UFO - Obsession 1979 The German band Accept releases their self-titled debut album. They are considered to be the first European power metal band. Ozzy Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath and replaced by Ronnie James Dio. Bands formed this year: Europe, Hanoi Rocks, Trouble and Venom. A sample of heavy metal albums released in 1979: AC/DC - Highway To Hell Judas Priest - Hell Bent For Leather Led Zeppelin - In Through The Out Door Kiss - Dynasty Saxon - Saxon Scorpions - Lovedrive 1980 Best Heavy Metal Album Of 1980: AC/DC - Back In Black AC/DC lead singer Bon Scott dies and is replaced by Brian Johnson. Guitar El Chark , which translates to 'Guitar of the Orient', is a collection of singles, and album cuts that spawn the Lebanese years of Omar Khorshid's musical career. The Egyptian Khorshid began playing guitar in the early 60s, and soon formed Le Petit Chats, who were modeled after The Beatles. Later he would join Abdel Halim Hafez and Baligh Hamdi in their orchestra, and that was when his fame began to spread throughout the Middle East. In the early 1970s he moved to Beirut, Lebanon, and recorded several solo LPs from 1973 to 1977. This later solo work is where the songs on Guitar El Chark come from. This release, and Omar's later work, consist of a blend of surf guitar, traditional Arab music, Flamenco, and psychedelic keyboards that form an instrumental, almost early-Bollywood sound. Seventeen tracks, and one promotional radio spot, adding up to over eighty minutes of awesome. I cannot express how wonderful it is to finally get my hands on some of his work. Well, neither can thousands of others, as this limited edition, gatefold, double slab of 12" wax has apparently flown off the racks. Hopefully, Seattle's Sublime Frequencies Records will reissue this in CD format for the newly schooled masses.

I studiesammenheng har jeg streifet innom temaet noen ganger. Da jeg studerte journalistikk i Bodø skrev jeg i 2006 en reportasje der jeg fulgte to unge gutter fra Bodø på Iron Maiden-konsert i Oslo. Og utover det har jeg skrevet noen mindre oppgaver og tekster der metal har vært tema. Men i det store og det hele har jeg nok alltid følt at temaet ikke er seriøst nok, eller at det havner litt utenfor fagene jeg har tatt. Da jeg begynte å studere medievitenskap på Universitetet i Bergen la jeg merke til hvor bredt dette fagfeltet favner. Vi lærte tidlig om forskjelige kultur- og sosiologitemaer. Om fankultur og forskjellen på kunst, camp og kitch. Om Theodor Adorno og kulturindustrien. Tanken på å vinkle noe av dette mot musikkgenren metal ble stadig mer fristende. Nå som jeg først har jobbet med en slik oppgave om metal ser jeg at selv om det har vært gjort en del forskning og skriving om temaet, så burde det vært gjort mye mer. Metal bør forskes seriøst på, og det er mye man kan ta tak i. Det jeg har gjort her dekker bare en liten del.
