I. Goal: Student will be able to find their specified object 4 out of 5 times without help
II. Objectives: 1. Find objects that have been hidden in nearby locations 4 out of 5 times without help 2. Students will be able to identify their specific object
III. Adaptations for Diverse Learners: Make the hidden object more or less challenging depending on the student. Provide a “match” so that the child can remember what her object looks like. Provide hints for a student who is having a hard time finding her object.
IV. Materials: 5 different objects 5 different candies
V. Key Vocabulary Square Blue Yellow Circle Red Orange Rectangle Green Triangle
VI. Procedure: A. Transition Girls, lets all come to the carpet and sit on our bottoms so we can do our activity today.
B. Set/Hook How many of you have ever played hind-and-seek? What do you do during hide and seek? We are going to play a game like hide-and-seek, but instead it’s going to be a scavenger hunt!
C. Main lesson Each student is given a specific object that is “their object” that they are to look for. As a group they will close their eyes and count to ten (or more) two times (or once), while the teacher hides the objects. When the objects have been hidden, the students can then look for their object. When they find it they will come sit down at the table until everyone has fond their object. We will continue until the students show lack of interest or up to five times (unless they want to continue playing). D. Conclusion On the final round, we will hide candy for each of the students to find and have. We will then talk about what was hard about the game and what they enjoyed.
E. Transition Alright, now it’s time to listen to your teacher and see what she has planned for us to do next.
VII. Assessment: Constant informal assessment by observation Questions will be asked at the end to determine how the children though they did as well as what they liked or disliked.
VIII. Integrating Throughout the Day: Talking about the different shapes Finding and looking for things that are lost/misplaced
IX. Self Evaluation:
This lesson was right on in regards to the students’ interest. They were very interested and responsible to the activity as well as to the different shapes and colors. It wasn’t forced. The children were very excited and wanted to keep playing. The students wanted to hind their own, so with more time, I would contemplate letting each child hide their own. Most likely if we played this many days in a row.
