Village of Harwood Heights Public Safety Bulletin Mayor Arlene Jezierny Chief of Police James O’Grady Deceptive Practices – other 17 July 14, 1603-1625 hrs, Deceptive Practice. 5022 N Harlem, McDonalds Rest. Subject used a counterfeit $20.00 bill, not realizing that the note was a fake. Subject had cooperated with HHPD officers investigating the incident. The bill was inventoried and turned over to the United States Secret Service for further investigation. Phone Scams 8 July 14, 0744-0800 hrs – Deceptive Practice. 7600 blk. Ainslie. Victim received a call from a subject claimimg to be IRS investigator and stated that the complainants husband owed the IRS $985.00 in U.S.C. Complainant became suspicious, hung up on the caller and contacted H&R Block and learned that the call was a scam. 15 July 14, 1733 hrs, (incident occurred between 18 Dec 12/8 Mar 13). Identity Theft. 4800 blk of Nomandy St. Victim reported receiving a call from a ComCast representative asking the victin to confirm his last 4 digits of his SS number. Victim later learned that an account was opened with his identity and that there was a outstanding bill from ComCast for $672.82. Burglary/Ruse Burglary. 3 July 14, 1145 - 1200 hrs – Ruse Burglary. 4500 block of New England. M/W mid 50’s, med build, light brown hair, used RUSE he was with the Water Dept and was let in residence by elderly couple. Subject ran out front door when daughter came to check on the victims. Drawers in bedrooms opened and reported missing was U.S.C. and miscellaneous jewelry. Reminder: Do not allow anyone inside your residence that you do not know and didn’t call for service. All Village Employees/PublicWworks have IDs on them at all times. Ask for ID and call 911 for verification. 9 July 14, 1130-1513 hrs – Residential Burglary/Forced. 4700 blk of Narragansett Avenue. Residence alarm activated. Neighbor reported the front doors on residence were damaged . Pending investigaton. 12 July 14, 2110-2137 hrs – Residential Burglary/Forced Entry. 4739 N Nagle. ADT alarm activated, rear door damaged, nothing reported taken. Neighborhood canvassed by HHPD. Criminal Damage to Property. 5/6 July 14, 2325-0856 hrs –Criminal Damage to Property. 7400 block of Strong. Victim reported that her front door was damaged and it appeared was caused by an unknown offender(s) foot.

4/5 July 14, 2330-0830 hrs – Criminal Damage to Property. 7503 W Foster. Complainant found a Village Stop Sign laying on the pavement behind his garage. It was later learned that unknown offender(s) had removed the sign from the corner of Foster and Olcott. 9 July 14, 1357 hrs – Damage to Village Property. 7200 block Lawrence Avenue. Harwood Heights Public Works reported that two metal benches had been damaged being that they had been pulled out of the ground and had been bent. Cause is undetermined at this time. 11-12 July 14, 2200-0000 hrs – Burglary from Motor Vehicle/ No Force. 4900 block of Octavia. Victim reported taken was a black I Pod, sunglasses, white I Pod and work apron from his Gray Acura. No signs of forced entry. 15/16 July 14, 1225-1350 hrs – Criminal Damage to Property, 7200 block of Wilson Avenue. Victim reported her 2013 Honda CR-V rear passenger tire was slashed while parked at the above location parking lot by unknown offender(s). 19/20 July 14, 2030-1630 hrs – Criminal Damage to Property, Harlem and Leland (Parked 30’ West of Harlem) Victim reported that unknown offender(s) had broken both of his 1996 Buick Regal mirrors off using an unknown type tool. Misc. Crimes 7-10 July 14, 1611-1824 hrs- Theft: Under $300.00. 6800 block of Leland Avenue. UPS Package was stolen from the front door, which contained a Samsung Galaxy 3s tablet computer, unknown serial valued at $299.99. 19 July 14, 1620 hrs – Battery/ Disorderly Conduct. 4761 N Nagle, Butera Market. Victim reported that 2 M/W subjects were asked to leave the premises for bothering a female worker. Both subjects left the store yet remaining in the parking lot with one taunting the victim with obscene hand gestures and verbal threats. Victim then walked outside the store again asking them to leave and was confronted by the subjects in a aggressive manner. Subjects were detained by victim and another co- worker and taken into custody by HHPD Units. Subjects later identified as a EGOROV, ROMAN M/W 26 YOA, was charged with Battery and Disorderly Conduct on signed complaints and a ODAY, BRANDON A M/W 18 YOA, of Chicago was charged with Battery on a signed complaint. Extra Watch – Community Alert 9 July 14, 2309 hrs – Disorderly Conduct. Newland and Carl Cassatta. Victim(s) reported being followed by a M/W subject described as having on a white T- shirt, blue jeans, 5’9”-6’0” tall, 180lbs and that he exposed himself to them. The victims ran to a nearby residence to seek help and called 911. The offender was gone on arrival of HHPD units. 17 July 14, 1618-1625 hrs, Fire Complaint. 6740 W Montrose. (St. Rosalie’s Church property). Complainant observed smoke coming from between to parked mobile trailers on the North end of the property. Complainant then discovered that a tire was set on fire by unknown offender(s) that was on the ground between said trailers. The complainant was able to extinguish the tire prior the arrival of HHPD and NPFD. No damage was reported.
