Principles of Business, Marketing, & Finance Syllabus

Course Description: In Principles of Business, Marketing, and Finance, students gain knowledge and skills in economies and private enterprise systems, the impact of global business, marketing of goods and services, advertising, and product pricing. Students analyze the sales process and financial management principles. This course allows students to reinforce, apply, and transfer academic knowledge and skills to a variety of interesting and relevant activities, problems and settings in business, marketing, and finance.

Textbook: Not Applicable

Tutorial Times: 8:30-8:50am Monday thru Friday by appointment only.

Materials Needed: 1 spiral notebook, pens/pencils, folder. Additional items for projects will be noted for the assignment.

Donations of appropriate magazines would be greatly appreciated. These could include:

1. Travel Magazines 2. Time 3. Newsweek 4. Fast Company 5. Entertainment Magazines (People) 6. Sports Magazines (ESPN) 7. Forbes, etc. Classroom Expectations

5. Follow all LBJ/AISD rules and expectations. So, what does this mean? i. You cannot use, IPODS, MP3’s, gaming systems or cell phones during lecture or instruction time. Computers and will only be used for academic purposes as directed by the teacher.

The difference between classroom expectations and classroom rules:

Rules are created and enforced to prevent unwanted but expected behavior. Expectations are what is expected from each student during each class.

Classroom Rules

1. Arrive on Time ready to improve yourself academically every class 2. Come Prepared and Make an Honest Effort Each Day 3. Take Initiative by Completing Work On Time, Cleaning Up Your Area, & Always Show Respect 4. Support Each Other & Offer Assistance 5. Students are Dismissed by Mr. Bryant, Not the Bell...The Bell serves as an alert to the teacher to dismiss students. 6. DO NOT OPEN MY CLASSROOM DOOR FOR ANYONE 7. DO NOT STAND BY THE DOOR BEFORE CLASS END

Consequences: If you choose to break a rule…….. 1st time = Casual Warning 2nd time = 1 on 1 Coversation 3rd time = 1 on 1 Coversation Severe Offense = Parent Notification and Teacher Detention

Classroom Procedures

Entering/Exiting the Classroom: You are to enter the classroom and begin the bell work assignment. You should exit the classroom through the designated door. As stated in the class rules, the bell does not dismiss you. Do not line up at the door; remain seated until the teacher dismiss you. All materials and trash should be put into the correct places and chairs should be pushed under the desk. Tardies : A student who is in the classroom when the bell finishes is considered tardy. You will need to go to the office for a pass to enter the class and signed tardy log in sheet.

Hall passes : The restroom may only be used in emergencies. A pass is required for leaving class. Only one student mat be out at a time. Do not ask to use the restroom and run an errand during class time. Take care of your business before class begins.

Cheating: Cheating results in an automatic zero for all parties involved.

Electronic Devices: As per the AISD Student Code of Conduct, electronic devices (cell phones, handheld music devices, etc.) are not allowed in the classroom. You will, however, be allowed to use your cell phone before/after school, between passing periods, and during lunch. Because the nature of our content matter cell phones are applicable. Do not come into my classroom while talking on your phone. If you have any electronic device that is not class related out during class, I will confiscate the item and returned to you after class.

Bell work: Everyday will begin with some type of bell work activity. It will be kept in your spiral or folder unless otherwise instructed. Be sure to date your work every day. All major assignments will be submitted through edmodo.

Late work: Will be accepted at teacher’s discretion.

Make-Up Work: If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the missed assignment, make it up, & turn in.

Retaking Tests: If a student fails a test, that student will be given one opportunity to retake that test up to a 70%. They have ONE WEEK to do so.

Assignments: Most assignments will be completed during class time. Quizzes and tests will be given throughout the semester.

Grades and Grading Policy Grades are in two categories: Minor grades=40% (Test, Quizzes) Major grades=60% (Projects, presentations, bell assignments, classwork)

All rules and regulations set forth by Austin ISD, LBJ ECHS the governing teacher will be strictly adhered to. Please be familiar with the LBJ ECHS Student Handbook.
