On behalf of our Miss Perham and Miss Heart of the Lakes Committee I want to thank you for choosing our program. We are excited to continue to grow and expand upon the excellence of our program!
In case you weren’t aware our program has had tremendous success- we cannot wait to help you succeed as well!
Miss Perham is a long-standing tradition within our community. As Miss Perham you become a recognized citizen of our community, active volunteer within our area schools, and are a dominant figure at our Annual Turtle Festival.
In 2005, our 1st Miss Heart of the Lakes- Karyn Stordahl-Utecht was crowned Miss Minnesota! In the following years we have had 4 of our Miss HOTL place in the top 5, several place in the top 10 and 1 receive an honor of Breakout Talent award for her Rookie year! Our Miss Perham’s always have great success as well- many have received awards and all have received immense scholarships!
Again this year marks a special addition- we are again adding Miss Heart of the Lakes Outstanding Teen to our pageant family and maybe even Miss Perham’s Outstanding Teen.

The Miss Perham &Miss Heart of the Lakes Mission is to support the 4 Points of the Miss America crown: Scholarship, Style, Service & Success
Each member of our committee is dedicated to enriching the lives of our contestants. Upon arrival, we hope you enjoy your time with us in our community and look forward to working with the three lucky women who will represent us all for the pageant year!
Throughout each titleholder’s year of service she will be equipped with a variety of useful tools for her every day life.
WE are passionate about utilizing our unique skills as a team. From day one of you being crowned, you will receive dedicated service from us in the following areas: 1. Interview preparation 2. Talent Review and preparation 3. Stage Presence enhancement 4. Public Speaking opportunities and development 5. Platform Development 6. Fitness plan and education

As director of this program, I personally support each young woman, her family, and this committee through the following core values:

Mandatory Paperwork deadline- Saturday, December 9th All paperwork must be turned in via email or mail and you must have received a confirmation receipt from the committee.
Possible Practice: Friday, January 12th, Time TBD @ Perham High School Auditorium We will email all contestants with exact times once we decide to hold this practice.
Pageant Rehearsal: Saturday, January 13th 8am-6pm @ Perham High School Auditorium We will rehearse the production number; talent rehearsal will be 2 times through for each contestant, and then proceed with full dress rehearsal! Please ensure you have your FULL wardrobe with you, hair and makeup will not be necessary for the rehearsal. Pageant Date: Saturday, January 13th - Prompt Arrival at 8 am We will announce interview times and contestant order at Practice or via email. If we have over 10 contestants Lunch will be provided along with a light dinner before the pageant. Please bring with you any snacks, and water you will require during the day. You will not be permitted to leave campus once interviews begin. Parents/ travel companions are allowed in the dressing room to help you unpack your items for the 1st half hour. Parents/ travel companions are not allowed back into the school or theater until the doors open for the pageant at 6pm Friday Evening.
1st Meeting with Directors Sunday, January 14th- Saturday 9am- Location TBD We will review your judges critiques, provide a calendar of events, schedule dates for Web calls, in person preparations, shopping trips, and begin discussion of your plans for your platform- be prepared to WORK right away Saturday morning!

All paperwork is due via email ASAP no later than December 9th Pageant Forms Due Date Comments Intent to Participate ASAP Email to [email protected] MAO Resume This fact sheet will be included in the information given to the judges. ASAP Do not embellish any facts about yourself- just be yourself. All contestants are required to have a platform. This will be given to the Platform Statement ASAP judges. This is required to verify that you meet the age requirements of the Birth Certificate ASAP program Drivers License from MN or Proof of residency is required to ensure you are eligible to compete within proof of residency ASAP the state of Minnesota and/or our closed title Miss Perham. Your most recent official transcript from Middle School- (Teen), High School- (Teen and Miss) or College- (Miss) that you are currently Transcript or report card attending is required. If you have graduated, your final transcript must be submitted. Judges will ASAP not see your transcript. Local Contract & Scholarship Rules & Regulations Form ASAP
Additional Items Required December 9th Comments Photo (Digital Image emailed) ASAP This will be used for Marketing Purposes Prior to the Pageant date All contestants whose talent requires a musical accompaniment Must provide that accompaniment on CD. Be conscious of the quality of the Accompaniment CD (2 copies) master, because The better the master, the better it will sound for your or MP3 December 9th performance. You must provide TWO copies of your CD (this is important, as Burned copies don’t always work) Both copies must be labeled with your name. NOTE: YOUR TALENT PRESENTATION MUST BE 90 seconds OR LESS IN LENGTH.

In order to be eligible to compete you must meet the following criteria:
Miss Perham- 1) Must be between the ages of 17-24; Must be graduating high school prior to the state pageant in June of 2018; Can not be 24 prior to December 31st of 2018. 2) Must live, work or attend school full time within 30 Miles of the Perham City Limits 3) Be a United States Citizen 4) Meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss America Organization 5) Be in reasonably good health to meet job requirements 6) Be able to meet the time commitment and job responsibilities as set forth in contract
Miss Heart of the Lakes- 1) Must be between the ages of 17-24; Must graduating high school prior to the state pageant in June of 2018; can not be 24 prior to December 31st of 2018. 2) Must live, work or attend school full time within the State of Minnesota 3) Be a United States Citizen 4) Meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss America Organization 5) Be in reasonably good health to meet job requirements 6) Be able to meet time commitment and job responsibilities as set forth in contract
Miss Heart of the Lakes or Perham Outstanding Teen- 1) Must be between the ages of 13-17; (Age minimum of 13 by June 1st, 2018 and no older than 17 as of July 31st, 2017) 2) Must live, work or attend school full time within the State of Minnesota 3) Be a United States Citizen 4) Meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organization 5) Be in reasonably good health to meet job requirements 6) Be able to meet the time commitment and job responsibilities as set forth in contract Pageant Day Outline

Wardrobe/ Pageant Checklist
Production Number: Black Cocktail Dress, Nude or Black Shoes
Interview- Sheath dress, Blouse & skirt, Suit, or business appropriate dress with heels
Miss Swimsuit- 1 or 2 Piece in Good Taste
Teen Physical Fitness- Black Yoga Style Capris and Colored Workout Tank Top or T-shirt (No wearing Sports Bra only!) ***You MUST have reviewed and practiced the fitness routine prior to arriving! https://youtu.be/Pqj8uQeQdZ8 - found at this link!
Talent- Please bring any props you require (i.e. chair, table, etc.) Grand Piano is provided Music Stands and sheet music are NOT permitted for use during talent - all talent pieces are to be 100% memorized Microphone options- Hands free- head set, Cordless Microphone, Microphone on Stand ***No changes in lighting are permitted- all contestants will have basic White Lights on stage with colored light background chosen for set design only. *** Evening Gown- Floor length Gown
Shoes- Please plan to wear either Clear or Nude Heels for your Swimsuit Competition. Keep heel height in good taste and appropriate to the competition!
Makeup- bring all essential Makeup items with you
Hair- You will NOT be permitted to leave to have your hair styled. We will provide a gal to help you minimally as needed. Bring all Curlers, Hair spray, curling irons, pony tails, bobby pins, brushes, combs, etc that you will be using! If you require multiple appliances please plan to bring a surge protector strip with you.
Jewelry- Please plan to wear earrings for each area of competition- they do NOT need to be bold for Interview, Swimsuit or Fitness!
Additional- *Mirrors are provided- however, you will likely be sharing with 1-2 other girls *NO spray tanning on the premises allowed! * Steamer will be available but plan to have dresses pressed prior to arrival, as we do not have time to maintain everyone’s dresses. * Water and food is provided- if you require specific dietary needs please pack accordingly.
