As a provocative symbol of their power, in June 2012, these armed groups used the opportunity of the World Heritage Committee meeting in St-Petersburg (Russia) to destroy a first series of Mausoleums which were the main components of the property inscribed on the World Heritage List since 1988. -

The mystery clones that comprise this consistently well- reviewed blend make unique and delicious wines in every vintage. Kismet means “fate or destiny” and that perfectly describes the fortuitous circumstances that led to our growing and vinification of this unique wine! Winemaking: The grapes were harvested separately and whole cluster pressed and then fermented utilizing indigenous yeast. The Sauvignon Blanc is usually one of our first harvests and the Semillon is always our last harvest. The Sauvignon Blanc was fermented in stainless steel and the Semillon was barrel fermented in neutral French oak. The wine was lightly fined for clarity and was bottled unfiltered on May 4th, 2017. Tasting Notes: Frostwatch Kismet is a proprietary blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. This White Bordeaux cuvee was originally based on 47 vines (plants later identified as unknown clones of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon), which were accidentally planted in our original Chardonnay block in 1997. After several years of segregating the fruit from those vines, and loving the resulting wine, we took cuttings from the plants and planted several acres of these unique clones. -

MEI ZHONG-ADVISOR BALL STATE UNIVERSITY MUNCIE, INDIANA JULY, 2012 Herbert’s Songs: Designed for Classical Singers Introduction Victor Herbert has undoubtedly provided America some of its greatest, most tender, romantic, invigorating, and challenging songs for soprano. Today, Herbert’s masterworks appear simultaneously in both Musical Theater Anthologies and Operatic Collections. Many students encounter questions as to performance practice: can these songs be sung as “musical theater,” with young, immature voices, or should they be studied by classical singers? Despite the pool of speculation swirling around this issue, there has not been any significant research on this particular topic. This study will detail the vocal abilities of Herbert’s most prolific sopranos (Alice Nielsen, Fritzi Scheff, and Emma Trentini), and identify compositional elements of three of Herbert’s most famous arias (“The Song of the Danube,” “Kiss Me Again,” and “Italian Street Song”), using historical data to demonstrate that each composition was tailored specifically for the versatility and profound vocal ability of each opera singer, and is poorly mishandled by those without proper classical training. The writer will offer observations from three amateur online recordings of “Art Is Calling For Me.” The writer will use the recordings to highlight specific pitfalls untrained singers may encounter while singing Herbert, such as maneuvering coloratura passages, breath control, singing large intervallic leaps, and the repeated use of the upper tessitura. -

In Donfield, a bearded man wearing wire-framed spectacles with round lenses, a knitted white skull cap and a serene expression, sat quietly in the waiting room of his doctor’s surgery. Imam Zulfikar Ali Mahmud was a man who had long since developed the ability to sit absolutely still, allowing his mind to dwell on matters more important than anything in his immediate surroundings. Distractions like that annoying little boy sitting opposite, staring and pointing, whispering loudly into his mother’s ear. It was no effort to ignore the child, doubtless destined to become just another typical English teenager. Selfish, undisciplined, rude and ignorant, of no value to society. Just like the ill-bred, beer-sodden animals who had mocked him on a bus only a few months ago. Not one of the dozen or so other British citizens present had intervened as the louts sneered, telling him to go back to his own country. He had remained sitting quietly in dignified silence, looking straight ahead, not responding. No point. Soon, very soon, there would be no more country to go back to. No national borders, just one country, world-wide. One state, one nation: Islam, the Caliphate. Allah had so decreed, it was Kismet. A buzzer sounded briefly to draw attention to the electronic notice-board on the wall. It scrolled a new message: MR MAHMUD TO DR SHAH’S ROOM PLEASE. Teaching involves in-class activities, conversation, and lessons, as well as homework exercises and assignments. By the end of the course students should have improved their speaking and writing ability as well as their ability to read and translate contemporary stories and passages in modern Urdu. Students will be familiarized with aspects of South Asian culture connected with the language, and will be exposed to Urdu poetry and film. Students with Disabilities: If you have a disability, whether physical or mental (anxiety, depression, etc.) please do not hesitate to let me know in person or via email as soon as you can, and we will plan out a course of action. Ibrahim Faculty of Engineering International Islamic University Malaysia E mail: [email protected] Doi:10.5901/mjss.2013.v4n11p696 Abstract Timbuktu civilization began as a seasonal settlement for trade caravans in the early 11th century. It later flourished in trade and as one of the early African centres of Islamic culture. This paper reviews the trend of Timbuktu civilization from prehistoric period up to the current state of its political impact of the region. The paper further focuses on the role Timbuktu played in African history by serving as academic and commercial centre. The significant of this paper is to reveal the fact that Africa has a long Islamic civilization. The paper provides evidences from reliable sources of the symbolic representation of the impact and influence of the early schools and universities between 11th and 15th century that existed in West Africa. The manuscript of Timbuktu serves as a living testimony of the highly advanced and refined civilization in Africa during the middle ages. The history of monuments, artefacts as well as architectural land marks that signifies the historical origin of this ancient city is presented. The early heroes that stood firm towards the development and civilisation of Timbuktu are outlined. Analysis of the development as well as the factors that led to the civilization is presented in this paper. Keywords: Timbuktu, civilization, Islamic History, Africa.
