District/Region: AB NWT

PAOC Credentials Required: Preferred

Job Description:

For 30 years the Marketplace Chapel has existed in West Edmonton Mall as a Christian outreach providing spiritual care and chaplaincy to mall employees, shoppers and tourists. This fall the chapel will re-launch with a new name, vision and leadership under the direction of West Edmonton Christian Assembly. We are thankful for the leadership who has gone before us and we look forward with great anticipation to what the Lord is going to do because of the foundation that has been laid for the past three decades.

Looking forward, the chapel ministry will be launched in two phases. First, think of the chapel as a mission outpost or strategic ministry arm of WECA. The ministry will capitalize on an innovative space specifically designed to provide an opportunity for our church congregation to help meet the spiritual needs of the malls employees, shoppers and tourists. Secondly, the chapel will serve as a future worship site for West Edmonton Christian Assembly and become a highly aligned second campus for those coming to faith through this ministry.

The person who leads in this pastoral role will need to understand the uniqueness of the venue, the culture of WECA, as well as be sensitive to the logistical restrictions that accompany a missionary work in a public mall. Think urban missionary, meets restricted access nation, meets church plant, all while functioning as an extension of a local church.

The ministry duties at the chapel would include, but are not limited to the following:

-Develop and implement a strategic ministry plan -Oversee all chapel programming/ministries/events -Develop a volunteer recruitment/training strategy -Coordinate chaplaincy schedule -Develop a core team to launch a campus site (projected fall 2017) -Oversee advertising and communications -Attend all WECA staff meetings/Pastoral meetings -Meet regularly with WECA’s Associate Pastor (direct supervisor) -Meet regularly with the Chapel Office Manager

Required Skills:

Evangelism/ outreach driven Highly relational/ community minded Good self-awareness/ team oriented Experience in recruiting/training/releasing volunteers Entrepreneurial/ Strategic thinker Love for the local church

Experience Required (Or Asset):

Church ministry experience within a large church context or church plant is an asset

Education Required: Bible College Diploma/Degree Preferred.
