Congratulations to Frank Mackey - K4EC! The initial 5 Million PVRC award is prestigious enough, but crackerjack CW OP Frank Mackey, K4EC, will be receiving his 10 Million point endorsement next month. Congrats Frank!

Minutes of Oct. 11 Meeting

By Bob, KT4KS Co-Secretary

The Club's meeting was called to order at 7:32PM, with President Bob KI30 leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Bob KI3O then initiated club member introductions for the 15 in attendance.

TREASURER: There was no Treasurer's report, as Treasurer Mike KE4ER was not in attendance. (Note: Mike did arrive after the business portion of the meeting.)

ARES: Steve K3IZ stated that last month Pat WJ0T and Debra KG4URO helped at the National Airport drill. Steve stated that the Mount Vernon Hospital may pay for a dual band radio, and that the hospital would install both the rig and a new antenna. It was mentioned that any rig should do packet, and that it should have access to emergency power (i.e. generator). Steve mentioned that red outlets around the hospital provide such emergency power. The Marine Corp Marathon is coming up, and member may still be able to sign up. Jeff AI4IO is not the chief RACES person for Fairfax County.

EDUCATION: "Louisiana Jorge" will run Saturday's test session at the First Christian Church.

REPEATER: Doug WA3WEP stated that the antenna work had yet to be carried out at the repeater site. A purchase request has been made by the City of Alexandria, and now it is up to the City to write the check that will pay for the straightening out of the club's antenna, which continues to be tilted about 15 degrees. In addition, the antenna work will include rotating the antenna about 45 degrees. The task will not cost MVARC anything.

COAST GUARD: There was no Coast Guard report.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH: Bob KT4KS stated that the Outreach is anxious to provide for any advertising required in future MVARC events. All the club need do is notify Bob KT4KS. At Carol's WA4GFW urging, Bob KT4KS agreed to contact John WZ4A regarding whether the club will resume advertising it's monthly test sessions in WORLDRADIO.

PROGRAMS: Glen W4OCC is expected to provide a talk about his Delaware radio accommodations at the November meeting. That same month the club may also be provided with a talk about doing satellite work from condos Future programs relate to D-Star and patents.

WEB SITE: Paul AA8O stated that he renewed the web site and e-mail as a package, and that the club's web site has a capacity of 1000 pages. Also, the club now has 50 e-mail addresses. The package is good till Jan 2009.

OLD BUSINESS: Bob KI3O is collecting gifts for the holiday party. The club's gift exchange limit is $10, though Bob KI3O thinks all the members spend more, with the exception of one MVARCer. The issue of finally amending the Club Bylaws was addressed. The main issue regarding the amendment is to reduce the quorum from 30% down to 10%, so that the club may effectively conduct meetings. George N1BV suggested that the proposed Bylaws be placed on the club's web site for inspection. Debra suggested that they be handed out during the Holiday Party, and that voting be done then when there is a high likelihood of meeting the constitutionally required quorum. Alternatives suggestions included a vote via proxy, with a third possibility that the club may vote at the first meeting date when dues are due.

NEW BUSINESS: Bob KI30 stated that the hospital has asked the club if it desires to continue to meet at the hospital next colander year. Membership was pleased with the invitation.

COOKIE MONSTER: Debra was the October Cookie Monster, and she treated the membership to brownies, cookies and soda. The brownies were pretty good. Bob KT4KS volunteered to be the November Cookie Monster.

DOOR PRIZES: The door prizes were exceptional. Steve K3IZ donated an RCA pin, which pin was won by a new member Bob K84YPI, who graciously gave it to John WQ4L. (John had expressed an interest in such jewelry.) Bob KT4KS won a child's science kit, Carol WA4GFW won a calligraphy pen, John won a tape about satellites, and George won a key chain that attaches to a belt loop.

Bob KI30 then closed the business section of the meeting, and the club fraternized into the night with the delicious brownies and conversation
