Douglas J Webster

Douglas J Webster born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania is an artist not trained by conventional means. With God given talent he creates amazing art. One would never know by his work that he has had no professional or personal training. He uses his gift and ability to see beyond his natural vision, to create beautiful images in different mediums such as colour and graphite pencils. Currently, he works with soft pastels on suede board and the results are astounding.

The images seem to speak to the very heart and spirit of those that view his work. When you look at Douglas’s work you sense the passion and emotions, the persona and character of that particular piece, it seems to draw you into that which is taking place. These various images are the very essence and experience of the man.

Witnessing the joy, curiosity and surprise that people express after having experienced his work, gives him great pleasure and honour. Most importantly it propels him forward to create new images, each with his meticulous attention to detail.

Douglas’s work has been exhibited through various venues such as:

Women of Vision, “Striving: Contemporary African American Artist of Pittsburgh” at the John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Centre

CAPA Gallery at the Creative and Performing Arts School in the Pittsburgh’s Cultural District

Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild: Seeing Jazz: A Tribute to the Masters & Pittsburgh Jazz Legends an exhibition by curator Gwen Black of New York.

Quote: Frederick A. Massey JR. CEO Family Links

“Doug brings the canvas to life. When you look into the eyes of his works, it as though you are having a conversation whether it be of President Obama and the heavy responsibility that rests upon his shoulders or Miles Davis and his genius pouring out of his pores. For those who have not seen Doug's work, you are in for a treat. You will be witnessing the next blessed thing.”
