Dear Educator:

Welcome to the Mid-Michigan Consortium Grade Level Content Expectations Toolkit. The Mid-Michigan Consortium is an educational collaboration among Clinton RESA, Eaton ISD, Ingham ISD, Gratiot-Isabella RESD, Livingston RESA and Shiawassee RESD. The purpose of the toolkit is to provide tools and resources to our local schools to help with the understanding and implementation of the GLCE in Math and Language Arts that were released by the Michigan Department of Education in March of 2004.

The toolkit provides a variety of activities and tools that can be used to acquaint teachers/staffs with the language of the GLCE and to assist them with the alignment of curriculum, teaching practices, resources and assessment. The activities are presented in a suggested order, but are designed to be adapted to fit the individual needs of the teachers/ staffs that will be using them.

Each activity in the toolkit has been described in step- by step detail and includes accompanying templates that would be needed to conduct each activity. There is also a clearly defined list of necessary resources and pre-work that would need to be done in advance to help ensure a successful session with participants.

January 12-13, 2005, the Mid-Michigan Consortium will be offering a workshop on grade level assessments aligned to GLCE; April 14-15, 2005, the focus will be on best practice instructional strategies that support the GLCE. Further details related to both of these sessions will be available in late October.

The Mid-Michigan Consortium will continue to add resources and links to this web site as they are developed by the MDE or other ISD's across the state. We welcome your feedback on the tools and encourage you to share with us additional activities and resources that you have found helpful with GLCE understanding and implementation. Please contact the consultant in your area to provide input. Contact information is available on the following page.

Collaboratively we hope to make the implementation of the GLCE a rich and meaningful experience to the teachers/staffs in our counties.
