CONVERSATIONAL SIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES FOR ADULTS __WINTER 2017: January 4 – March 1, 2017 (register before Dec. 28, 2016) __SPRING 2017: March 22 – May 24, 2017 (register before March 17, 2017) (no class April 19) __FALL 2017: September 6 – Nov. 8, 2017 (no class during Oct. break). (register before Sept.1, 2017)

About the classes: Wednesday nights, 6:30-8:00 PM, 9-week session. Classes are designed to enable hearing adults to converse with most Deaf people in the community. Classes are held at St. Rita School. No high school credit, college credit or continuing education units will be given for these classes or labs.

Class levels: Classes are divided into 6 levels: Beginner 1, 2, and 3, Intermediate 1, 2, and 3. Minimum class size is 10; class levels may be combined. Students are required to pass a skill evaluation before passing to the next level.

Textbook: LEARNING AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE I & II, ISBN #0-205-27553-2, by Tom Humphries and Carol Padden, published by Allyn & Bacon. 2003 edition (second edition). PLEASE buy your textbook online from WalMart.com, Amazon.com, etc.

About the lab (Monday nights, 6:30-8:00 PM): An optional, recommended Lab is offered, for an additional fee. Lab starts the Monday after sign classes start. Lab is an interactive environment emphasizing small group activities, games, tapes, story time, and drills with members of the Deaf community working as activity leaders. Lab features different activities geared towards individual needs, reinforcing classroom learning to help develop strong communication skills. Lab is also open to students from other sign classes offered in the Cincinnati area. You must complete Beginner I class BEFORE you take Lab.

Our instructors are teachers of the Deaf, interpreters, or use sign as their daily mode of communication. Instructors are involved in continuing education to constantly upgrade their teaching skills.

Fees: (pay by cash, check or money order only. Credit cards not accepted). Sign class (all levels) $70.00 Lab for St. Rita sign students $70.00 (must complete Beginner I first) Lab for outside students $80.00 (student not in our Wed. night classes) Textbook $100.00 (All fees, textbooks, and prices are subject to change without notice). ** AVOID LATE FEES: Registration form and fees must be received before registration deadline (see dates listed above) ***Family members (immediate family/same residence) of full-time St. Rita students and staff pay discounted fees for class and lab, but late fees still apply. There is no discount for books.

REFUNDS: No refund will be made for any reason after the second night of class. Contact JOYCE BABEL (771-7600x317) on or before the second night of class.

Weather related cancellations: announced on radio/tv stations. If school is closed, sign classes/lab are also closed. Please do not call the school.
