Christmas at the Fort Experience Texas’ Early Years During the 21st Annual Christmas at The Fort December 9,10,11,12, 2010 Introduce your family to Texas history at this stockade fort that played a unique roll in the settlement of our state. A 19th century timeline of entertainers and artisans will let you and your children learn about Texas’ early history or purchase historic era reproduction Christmas gifts. The living history timeline will span from the 1820s buck skinners to the 1890s cavalry, soldiers, and cowboy gunfighters.. In addition to homestead and camp life demonstrations, artisans will demonstrate glass blowing, blacksmithing, knife making, woodcarving walking sticks, flint knapping, cornhusk doll making, quilting, crocheting, spinning, weaving, and soap making. Live entertainment will include Indian Pow Wow dancers, gunfighter skits, storytellers, soldiers, cannons, dulcimer music, flute music, Cherokee stories and Indian Wedding Vow Renewal. There will also be animals to pet and: wagon rides and of course Santa will be there! Thursday and Friday of Christmas At The Fort have been dedicated as school days, with more than 2,700 area children scheduled for tours. On Saturday and Sunday, the Old Fort Parker grounds will be open to the public. Food booths will be available on site and lots of shopping. A limited number of camping spaces are available, so make your requests early.
