Special Thanks

 Fran recognized and gave special thanks to Cathy Bowman for hosting our final meeting (2011-2012). Fran announced that Cathy and Joe will be moving soon and asked members to please get the word out that we are in need of someone in Highland Lakes to replace Joe for collecting old newspapers for the Humane Society. This is a great way to recycle old newspapers and helps the Humane Society.

 Fran also gave special thanks to The Women’s Club for providing the food and Robert Kitts of Fresh Market for delivering the food and donating the many wonderful door prizes!

New Gate System Update

 Fran contacted Grant Estess, Manager, Neighborhood Management, and asked for an update on the new gate system. Grant provided the following information:

 Money and forms have been received from approximately 730 homes purchasing 2000 barcodes, with that number increasing.  Installation has been completed for over 150 homes (approximately one-third), but have contacted over 500 homes to set up appointments. The remaining 230 homes will be contacted in the next 30 days.  Our goal is to have everyone set up by Memorial Day.  The biggest holdup has been not being able to make contact with homeowners after we open up their street to make appointments.

We have made several changes since the beginning and tried to follow the lead of communities that have undertaken this task before us. After reviewing the comments from our test group, it was apparent that a color change was in order for the barcodes. We have switched to most neutral option, a black barcode with a black background. We’ve learned a great deal from other communities that have implemented this system before. Their biggest regret was sending out the barcodes in mass without having a verification system in place to match a specific barcode with a specific car. While the task will take longer to implement, we hope to have a seamless transition to the barcode system without a large disruption to our resident’s daily routine. Once all purchased barcodes are installed, we’ll have a few weeks of testing (think “soft opening”) and then will turn the system on permanently. Other Business
