 Introduction

Now that you have learned about graphic novels, you will create your own graphic novel based on a story or part of a story that you have read this year (traditional story).

 What is an adaptation?

In the theater/film world, an adaptation is a new version of an old story. An adaptation will typically have a similar plot as the original story (problem and solution); however, the adaptation may change the language used and/or the setting of the story (time and place) in order to make the story more modern.

 Requirements

1. Your adaptation will be in the form of a graphic novel.

2. Your graphic novel will include:

a. Plot of the story or part of the story: exposition, character introduction, conflict, and important events

b. Graphics

c. Dialogue : speech/thought bubbles

d. Structures: Panels, frames and gutters.

e. Cover

Grade 6 Reading Summer 2013 Baltimore County Public Schools DRAFT Office of Secondary English Language Arts [Type text] [Type text] 3. The overall plot of the scene should be similar to the original version and must include the same characters.

4. Your adaptation should be organized appropriately based on what you have learned about graphic novels.

5. Your graphic novel should be appropriate for your audience.
