3. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

3.1. The Council is one of four responsible authorities for the Crime and Disorder Partnership, the others being the Police, Fire Service and Primary Care Trust. The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 was amended by the Police Reform Act 2002 which stated that it was the duty of this partnership not only to carry out a review of crime patterns and trends every three years but also to carry out a review of drug use.

3.2. Parallel to this there was a Government expectation that in unitary authority areas Crime and Disorder Partnerships (CDRP) would integrate with Drug Action Teams (DAT) to ensure the Crime and Drugs Audit and new Strategy was a combined effort.

3.3. In order to ensure the new partnership in the unitary areas work closer together the Government Office asked these new joined up partnerships to undertake Partnership self assessments. On the back of this they were also asked to then draw up a plan of action to address any highlighted issues.

3.4. This action plan for Poole identified a number of key issues for the partnership to work on which includes; a new structure, review of membership, new names for the shared groups, new terms of

1 reference, mapping the training needs of the partnership, a new overarching name and logo.

3.5. The attached documents detail the membership and duties of the new partnership.
