Scratch Beginnings Annotations

Scratch Beginnings Annotations –

What is it? • Notes or comments added to a text to question, explain, or critique the text.

Why use it? • Reading is like listening, you need to do it actively. • It’s a good way to remember questions you want answered. • Annotation helps you learn and understand information. • By annotating, you can track specific information and your ideas, which makes writing later much easier.

• Write your thoughts on Post-It® notes, or directly on the paper (if it’s your own copy). • Use these 3 categories: • Connect – Connect to what you are reading. How does it relate to you personally? How does it relate to other topics of interest to you? • Comment – Critique what you are reading. How does it make you feel (happy, mad, shocked, etc.)? Do you believe the information? Do you like the way the author writes? • Question – Ask questions while you read. Why did the main character do that to solve her problem? What goals do I want to achieve? What does an event say about our world?
