Before you can begin contacting legislators about the issues that concern you and your community, you must first know who represents you and how to locate their basic contact information. To aid you in this process, we have compiled a list of the major legislator positions at each level of government, entitled Know Your Legislators. Please follow the instructions listed below in order to fill out this worksheet with your appropriate lawmakers and their contact information.

Step 1: Locating US Senators, Congressmen, State Senators, and State Representatives - Go to the Project Vote Smart website at http://www.votesmart.org/ - Enter your nine-digit zip code in the upper right-hand corner of the page and click “Search” o If you do not know your nine-digit zip code, go to the USPS website at https://tools.usps.com/go/ZipLookupAction!input.action and search for it using your full address - Scroll down the Location Search page to find your lawmakers and districts o The US Senators and US Congressman for your district may be found under the Congressional tab o The State Senator and State Representatives for your district may be found under the State Legislative tab and you may also visit www.leg.wa.gov for detailed information on our state legislature.

Step 2: Locating Local Government Officials - Names and contact information for local lawmakers will be found on the official websites that correspond to each government level. (You can find these web sites through a quick Google search.) o The County Executive and County Council Members may be found on the official county website o The Mayor may be found on the official city website o The Superintendent and School Board may be found on the official school district website
