LEADERSHIP LENDING LIBRARY

Welcome to the ASTDD Leadership Lending Library. This new resource is a product of the ASTDD Leadership Committee and the National Oral Health Leadership Institute. It has been developed as a way for ASTDD members to read books/ booklets on leadership and management with little out-of-pocket costs. While books on leadership and management are interesting and helpful, they often are read only once and never used again. Because of that, this lending library will enable you to read those books with the only expense to you being the shipping of the book back to ASTDD.

If you would like to “check out” one of our books/ booklets, simply send an email to the address at the bottom of this page, with the name and author of the book/ booklet requested. The book will be mailed to you within a few days.

We have but three requests from you:

1. Please return the book within 4 weeks of receiving it so that others may also learn from its contents. 2. Please mail the book using first class mail. 3. Look through your bookshelf and donate any of your leadership/ management books that you liked, and no longer need, to our lending library.

Thanks and happy reading (and learning)!

Governing by Network Stephen Goldsmith/ William Eggers

If government has become ever more reliant on its network-based partnerships, we certainly have not figured out how best to make them work: how to make them administratively effective and how to hold them politically accountable. The central lesson of this book is that we need to confront the realities of the system we have created and learn how to manage it well. This book is full of descriptions and lessons for how to deal with the emergence of governance by network. The biggest insight the authors bring to the debate is the need to reconcile traditional top-down hierarchy, built along vertical lines of authority, with emerging networks, built along horizontal lines of action. 188 pages Finding & Keeping Great Employees Jim Harris/ Joan Brannick
