Golf Unit

The Course: The course is divided into 4 areas: teeing grounds (tee box), hazards (water, bunkers), through the green (fairways) and putting greens.

Play: Player starts on the teeing ground. After teeing off, play continues toward the green with the player farthest from the hole hitting first.

Scoring: Par – The number of strokes that it should take to get the ball in the hole. Birdie – one under par. Eagle – two under par. Bogey – one over par. Double bogey – two over par (and so on).

Clubs: A player may carry up to 14 clubs in their bag. Clubs commonly used are: Driver Fairway woods – 3, 4, or 5 Rescue clubs Irons – 3,4,5,6,7,8,9, pitching wedge, sand wedge, lob wedge (as numbers get bigger – loft is increased.)

Golf Etiquette:

The Spirit of the Game  The game is played without for the most part referees. It relies on the integrity of the individual to abide by the rules.

Safety-  Players should not play until the players in front are out of range.  If a player plays a ball in the direction of where another player is standing. A warning of “fore” should be shouted.

Consideration for other players-  Don’t disturb other people’s play.  Electronic devices should be turned off.  Don’t stand too close to someone playing his or her ball.  On the putting green players should not walk in another players line to the hole.  Everyone stays on the green until everyone has holed out.

Pace of Play-  Play at a good pace.  Be ready to play your shot when it is your turn.  Play a provisional ball if a ball may be lost out of bounds.  Only look for lost balls for a short time.

Care of Course  Bunkers should be raked.  Players should repair divots.  Players should avoid unnecessary damage.  Always follow the directions posted for the carts.  Always replace the flagstick in the hole before leaving the putting green.
