These proposals 24 included a verifiable visa entry and exit system. Over fifty percent 25 of illegal aliens currently in the United States arrived here with 26 visas and overstayed them upon expiration. These include radical 27 Islamic Jihad students who come here under the pretext of study 28 only to instigate acts of terror; and 29 30 Whereas, according to the United States Census Bureau, the 31 United States population is expected to rise to 439 million by 2050 32 or 135 million more than today. By comparison, the United States 33 population was 203 million in 1970. More than eighty percent of 34 this is driven by legal and illegal immigration; and 35 36 Whereas, former Senator Gaylord Nelson, the founder of Earth 37 Day, stated that “it is phony to say you are for the environment but 38 not for limiting immigration.” Senator Nelson also said “those 39 environmentalists who think we can double or triple the United 40 States population without wiping out wildlife and scalping our last 41 wilderness are living in a fool’s paradise”; and 42
[1015] 2 1 Whereas, the proposed immigration bill would legalize between 2 ten and fifteen million new citizens and continue chain migration 3 which would allow them to bring extended family members, thus 4 ultimately legalizing over thirty million new immigrants; and 5 6 Whereas, a new Heritage Foundation Study says that the ultimate 7 cost of this bill would exceed 6.3 trillion; and 8 9 Whereas, the burden placed upon our nation’s governmental 10 services, taxpayers, environment, and infrastructure is on a 11 disastrously unsustainable path due to massive population growth 12 directly attributable to immigration; and 13 14 Whereas, the Surry County Board of Commissioners in North 15 Carolina supports an immigration policy that serves the national 16 interest instead of the interest of political parties and opposes the 17 “Gang of Eight” Senate immigration proposal; and 18 19 Whereas, solutions to immigration policy include ending chain 20 migration, verifying the visa entry and exit system, ending the visa 21 lottery, ending birthright citizenship, and offering federal 22 assistance for states to combat immigration problems. Now, 23 therefore, 24 25 Be it resolved by the Senate: 26 27 That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, support the 28 recommendations of the national immigration group Numbers 29 USA and encourage solutions to immigration policy. 30 -XX 31
