Welcome and introductions The Chairman, Peter White was unable to attend this meeting and in his absence Robyn Lister chaired the meeting and welcomed those present. It was noted that Cary Green would no longer be representing DSR; the DSR would be contacted to with regard to nominating a representative. 2. Minutes from Previous Meeting Minutes of the Peel Trails Group meeting held on 12th May 2015 were accepted Moved: Barry Small Seconded : Vanessa Slater Carried: Unanimously 3. Presentation : Trails WA – Linda Daniels, CEO Linda Daniels gave a detailed Powerpoint presentation relating to the role of Trails WA and the work achieved to date in this regard. The Trails WA Website aims to: promote trails and make it easier for people to find information; be a central source of information and to identify and enhance the best trails in the region; provide services and encourage service providers; to make it easy for trail managers and key agencies to update trails information; Peel Trails Group Minutes Page 1 OCM264.6/11/15 be an independent advocate for trails – make it easier for the end user and put WA on the map as a trails destination; Provide a social forum for sharing information at www.trailtalk.com.au Further information on the website : www.trailswa.com.au Robyn Lister thanked Linda for her detailed and interesting presentation, who agreed to send an electronic copy of her presentation for attachment to these minutes. Attachment B 4. Business Arising from Minutes of previous meeting (12 May 2015) 4.1 Trails and Extension of St Ives/Riverside Gardens Boardwalk – Presentation by City of Mandurah Brett Benchley from the City of Mandurah gave a presentation of the City of Mandurah’s ongoing work on this project, a copy of which is attached to these minutes. Attachment A Natalie Garnsworthy said she would keep the Group up to date with progress in the future. Robyn Lister thanked Brett for his very informative presentation. 4.2 Peel Development Commission Contact new CEO to invite a representative on PTG. Carried over to next meeting. 4.3 Quindanning Trail Tahnee reported she had been in contact with Keith and Angela Davies (Quindanning Action Group) who had sent a description of the Quindanning Walk together with photos. They were keen to process this trail into an official trail. Attachment C Rebecca (DPW) said that work had commenced to process the walk into an official trail. The DPaW was also working on overall standards and criteria for trails. There was also the question of the difficulty in DPaW obtaining funding; individual shires would need to be more proactive in their applications for funding. 4.4 Data Base for Trails Marketing Concept As Kent Sobey was unable to attend this meeting, this matter was carried over. Action : Kent Sobey 5. Finances 5.1 Treasurer’s report It was noted that the Financial Statements distributed reflected no change from the previous meeting report. 5.2 Post Office Box fee and Secretary’s Honorarium The Secretary to be reimbursed for the Post Office Box fee : $120 and paid her honorarium of $450, covering January to June 2015. Moved: Tahnee Forbes Seconded : Vanessa Slater Carried: Unanimously 5.3 PTG Annual Subscription Subscription notices had been sent out by the Secretary; to date, the following subscriptions had been received : Canoe Trail Friends of Mandurah and Pinjarra $25 City of Mandurah $100 Shire of Boddington $100 Peel Trails Group Minutes Page 2 OCM264.6/11/15 6. Correspondence Bikeweek Funding/Community Assistance Fund Acquittal – Peel Region “Cycle Instead” Letter of acknowledgement from the Shire of Murray Letter to CEOs re: Progressing a Trails Network in the Peel Region Copies of the Shire of Murray’s Trails Master Plan “Pathways to our Future” and their correspondence in this regard are attached to these minutes. Attachment D Resignation of Secretary Due to family commitments, the Secretary, Marguerite Griffith, submitted her letter of resignation from her position, taking effect from 30 June 2015. Attachment E It was agreed that the management of future meetings would be carried out on a rotational basis by committee members. 7. Strategic Plan updates 7.1 Aims & Objectives of PTG The following points were raised: Use of the word “advocacy” in this context was discussed and clarified. It was confirmed that we are an advisory group with our Strategic Plan 2015 containing achievable actions. Lobbying government for funding was discussed; Jodie Doherty stated that her Shire did not directly lobby government, but put in funding applications, together with letters of support from bodies such as the PTG. 7.2 Strategic Plan Item 3: Website and Trails apps After some discussion, it was agreed in principle that, rather than establishing a new web page, the preferable option is to improve the recently established website under the DSR “My Club”. Robyn Lister has provided the relevant user name and password information to Tahnee Forbes. However, as previously suggested by Barry Small, this discussion and the points raised would have to be first discussed and agreed to by the Chair, and should therefore be raised at the next meeting when the Chairman was present. 7.3 Strategic Plan Item 1: LGAs letters on proposed budget & actions from Trails Master Plans Responses still to be received from Shire of Boddington and Shire of Waroona. Follow up. Action: Tahnee & Tori 7.4 Strategic Plan Item 6: Promotional Events Peel Paddling Carnival Barry and Robyn have finalised Peel Paddling Carnival program for 1-30 September 2015. Aiming for 4 full page adverts of the program of events in local papers. Have received funding from City of Mandurah, Shire of Murray & SMPHU. Shortfall of approx $500 funding required from Peel Trails Group to go towards the advert budget. Moved: Steve Lee Seconded: Joy Lockhart Carried: Unanimously Permission was granted unanimously by the PTG for the photo taken last year to promote the Peel Paddling Carnival to be used again. Dragon Boat Race : Tahnee and Barry would discuss the possibility of running this event for next year’s Carnival. Peel Trails Group Minutes Page 3 OCM264.6/11/15 Walk Over October Robyn is currently planning the Walk Over October program of events A funding application by PTG has been made with City of Mandurah for $1,950 to cover advertising costs. If full amount is not granted by the City then up to $850 funds from Peel Trails Group’s budget may be required. Moved: Joy Lockhart Seconded: Rebecca Hamilton Carried: Unanimously 8. Other General Business Canoe Trails Friends of Mandurah and Pinjarra Barry reported as follows: Wheel-chair access to Samphire Cove Nature Reserve now officially opened. Trail Maps being processed for Dolphin Trail. Shire of Murray Jodie reported as follows: Shire of Murray would be trying to set up a meeting with DSR Trails Section to go through their policy and procedures for establishing a trail. Reviewing Pinjarra Heritage Trail Continuing work on Trails Hub concept plan Undergoing audit of trails Shire of Serpentine/Jarrahdale Vanessa reported as follows : Whitby Falls walk is now officially open. However, a problem exists with regard to who oversees opening and closing times of the entrance gates but hoped this would be resolved shortly. Shire of S/J were hoping to work on a joint project with WAMBA and DPaW eg Clean up of Langford Park to stop illegal rubbish dumping or brochure for Oakford Trail. Horse Trail Strategy open for public feedback. Dept of Parks and Wildlife Rebecca reported as follows : Pine boards had been replaced with jarrah at Lane Pool. There was a problem with names being changed on signage which could cause confusion. Jarrahdale Heritage Society Joy reported as follows: Walk books being updated Monthly walks, July-Gorgeous Gorge and Aug - Picnic in the Park Joy informed the Group that this would be her last meeting. Bernie Smith will attend in future. Bernie’s email is [email protected] Shire of Boddington Tahnee reported as follows: Project underway as part of a Main Street Vision to connect walk paths and trails to the Hotham River using funds obtained from Royalties for Regions. Keith and Angela hoped to organise a walk for "Walk over October" and would be liaising with Tahnee regarding dates etc. Peel Trails Group Minutes Page 4 OCM264.6/11/15 9.
