MEETING MINUTES BOARD OF DIRECTORS SAME ORANGE COUNTY POST

A meeting of the Board of Directors (BOD) of the Orange County (OC) Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) was held at the offices of Ninyo and Moore on Monday, April 7, 2008. Bob Yelin SAME OC Post President, called the meeting to order at approximately 12:04 am, after lunch.

1. Minutes Review - Draft minutes from the February 2008 BOD meeting were reviewed. The minutes were approved with minor modifications. 2. Treasurer’s Report - Penny Cornwall, the SAME OC Treasurer, presented and reviewed the account status and monthly report. o Checking - $21,709.79 o Investment CD - $14,849.1 o CD (8-mo @ 4.69%) - $10,388.01 - Bob Yelin noted that, as Post President, he still does not have access to the Post checking account. 3. Program Committee Report - John Cromwell, the OC Post Program Chair, discussed the status of the 2008 Program schedule. o Apr 24 – Michael Sabbaghian, Acting Recovery Branch Chief, California Office of Emergency Services, Eagle’s Nest, Cypress. The BOD recommended that the Page 1 of 3 Homeland Security Committee also brief the status of the Readiness Plan to the Post members at this meeting. o May 29 – Speaker Larry Serafini, John Wayne Airport, Eagle’s Nest, Cypress. o Jun 26 – Camp Pendleton Day, Sharkey’s. The room has been reserved. The speakers will be Mr. Lupe Armas (pending Bob’s call to confirm), Assistant Chief of Staff - Environmental Security, Commander Marshall Sykes, PE (USN) Camp Pendleton Public Works, CMDR Mark Geronime, US Navy, Chief of IPT–West and Maj General Michael R. Lehnert, Commanding General of Marine Corps Installations West. o Jul 24 - Speaker TBD, Eagle’s Nest, Cypress. John will contact NFESC for possible speaker o Aug 28 - Speaker TBD, Eagle’s Nest, Cypress. o Sep 12 – Golf Tournament, Green River Golf Club. o Oct 14- Scholarship Program, UCI University Club. o Nov 20 – Business Opportunity Symposium, Cost Mesa Hilton. The deposit has been made and the date reserved. The Symposium will be held in two adjoining rooms with more space than in the past. The BOD discussed the option of providing free booth space to other organizations, such as CELSOC, ASCE, DODWRC, and CMAA. The BOD will discuss sponsorships at the next meeting. o Dec 6 – Holiday Ball, Fort MacArthur. 4. Membership Committee - Ron Everly, the OC Post Membership Chair, reported that he responded to a request from Los Angeles AFB and attempted to recruit new members from that facility to the Orange County Post. 5. Small Business Committee - Don Mitchell, the OC Post Small Business Chair, said that he had contacted the Department of Defense Western Regional Council for Small Business (DODWRC) to ask if they would want to join the Post or provide a speaker for an upcoming meeting. Don has not heard back. He will follow up with DOD Council. 6. New Business - Bob Yelin announced that we met our goal of 10 attendees at the Regional SAME meeting in Tempe, Arizona. - Summer Camp: John Cromwell will contact Santa Ana High School JROTC program. This year, SAME is sponsoring three camps at the Air Force Academy, Port Hueneme, and Vicksburg Experimental Station. - Ron had suggested Tonya Smith from Hill participate as mentor at the Seabee Camp at Pt. Hueneme. Kleinfelder has the rights to a new female young member so Tonya will not be able to participate. Ron will call to see if we can have a secondary mentor at the camp.

Page 2 of 3 - Registration/Payment for Meetings: The BOD discussed various on-line alternatives for members to register and pay for meetings in advance. The costs, advantages and disadvantages of options were discussed. Jim and Penny will discuss further before making a decision. 7. Next Meeting - The next Board meeting will be at Ninyo and Moore’s Irvine office on Monday, May 5, 2008. Lunch sponsor for this meeting will be DCA Engineering Group. - The meeting adjourned at approximately 1:15 pm.
