Jackson Pathfinders Meeting Minutes Municipal Building June 17, 2016 Meeting called to order at 7:30pm by Ken Beyer, Chairman. Attendance: Dan Green, Shari Kondrup, Laura Stone, Paul Lippert, Ken Beyer, Mike Baum, Karen Walzer, Tom Stevens, Pat Stevens The minutes of the May meeting were approved with changes. Treasurer's report: Karen Walzer: The budget is $500.00. Tom Stevens said additional kids prizes were needed for Jackson Day and the Outdoor Expo and should be ordered soon. Corresponding Secretary / Membership: Dan Green: Dan sent out a reminder notice for the monthly meeting. Dan added two new participants, Jim Faughnan and Robert Smith and deleted one contact. Website & Facebook: Ken Beyer, Bill Dudley and Barbara Usack: Ken Beyer, the Pathfinders webmaster, is continuing the ongoing work of upgrading the website. Barbara Usack reported the Facebook page has 133 likes. Bill Dudley updated the meeting minutes on the website. Dan Green suggested removing the dates from pictures to avoid seeming out of date. He also suggested the trail maps be updated. Forest Resource Education Center (FREC): Rick Dutko: The Backyard Forestry program continues on the second Thursday of each month at 7pm, registration is through the NJ Forestry Assoc. In addition, there are Saturday programs on the second Saturday of the month. Rick said if we have a Friday hike ay the FREC he will have someone available to go with us. The Ocean County Parks Department led a birding trip at the FREC. Dan Green gave a brief talk before the hike about the Pathfinders and handed out brochures. Bluebird Report: Laura Stone: Laura reported there a twenty boxes with nests at the FREC, two at Patriots Park, two at OCVTS, five at Manchester Day School and thirteen at GCU. They are in their second nesting and have had twenty six fledged. Grants: Karen Walzer, and Tom Stevens: Karen volunteered to chair a committee to decide on the contents for the signs and web pages for the new Environmental Commission grant award project. The committee will consist of Karen, Ken Beyer and Shari Kondrup. Bunker Hill Bogs: Dan Green stated none of the repairs suggested by the Pathfinders have been done. Dan said he is going to e-mail Fred Rasiewicz, the Township Public Works director, about a timeline. NJCF Silver Stream Trail: Dan Green has the NJCF map on a PDF file for anyone interested. The color of the Kitay Trail needs to be changed to make it more visible. There will be a cleanup day on 7/10 at 9am. Monthly Hikes: A schedule has been drawn up for monthly hikes. They will take place on the first weekend after our monthly meeting. They will be on alternating Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There will be a registration required for each hike and they will be listed on the website. The hike for June is the Quail Lake trail at Colliers Mills. Laura Stone, Karen Borga and Dan Green scouted the trail. Dan said it may be best to have cars at both ends of the trail for people who do not want to make the return trip, it's approximately a mile each way. The hike will be on 6/26 at 9am. New Business:
