Student Life Staff Meeting November 4, 2009

Poverty 101  Volunteers coming at 4:30  Right after this meeting  KT will be here until 6:10pm  Any students arriving at 5:30 or later is too late.

Book Joy Jamboree/Kids Rock  Book Joy is tomorrow (Thursday)  SC 140s and PAC ampitheatre  Need help blowing up balloons in the morning (7:45a-8:00a)  Students will arrive at 8:20am  Cookies and Hi-Cs are in the fridge  Enough cookies and drinks for Kids Rock as well.  Will put out the banner in the morning  John Vargas is going to be Cody Coyote  Kids Rock will use the same set up as Vet Expo  Not sure what time of Kids Rock

Vet Expo/ PTK Inductions/ HS Math Competition  Vet Expo in Pavilion  PTK is involved in providing food  PTK Inductions are on Friday.  Kevin will be working late  Missing fish bowls  Missing cookie platters  Missing colored ice bins  HS Math is on Saturday  Kevin is working this event

Bus Vouchers  No longer giving subsidy bus vouchers  No more money for Trip Reduction in the district for the fiscal year  Effective immediately  Can still buy bus passes at the Bookstore, but not at a discounted rate

Disability Issues  Two days before Into the Streets a student came in that needed accommodations (wheelchair)  Alison talked to Disability Resources. They said it was not reasonable request because of the short notice.  There was another student that arrived that we didn’t know about and she was unable to attend.  We need to include “if you need specialized accommodations, it is your responsibility to talk to disability resources” on any of our event literature.  We need to make accommodations on this side as well as the other side (at the community sites, etc)

Marketing Flyers  We need to make sure that flyers have Marketing approval before we post them.  This applies to CGCC clubs and Orgs.  This does not apply to classes.  This does not apply to For sale/rent or off campus flyers.

Beth Ann’s Birthday  Next Tuesday the 10th (same day as staff)  She has Americorps Orientation at 3pm  Party set for Tuesday at the end of staff meeting after Americorps Orientation (4pm)  To be decided- KT is on the planning committee

Into the Streets  Mike appreciates everyone’s help! What a great group!  Alison says thank you! Delta  Jessie’s only observation is that our group always ends early  Ran out of coffee on the 2nd Friday because it was cold  Make sure that the staff/faculty running the registration should know what time it starts.  Did not like the Mayo in containers. Plus  Cesar thought things went really well.  Liked the diversity of agencies.  Breakfasts and lunches went well.  Karen thought it was very well organized.  Classroom visits for assignments helps remind them where they are going.  Good job everyone!

Web Advisory Group- November 16th 2-4pm  Mike is looking for a student to be a part of the group.  Mike asked Lorin Dusek to send info.  Will also meet Spring, Summer, and Fall semester  KT will ask Sara Watson and Karina from One Voice

Jonathon Kozal  Author- books on education, social justice, issues, etc…  Karen and Jen both saw him at ASU  Jennifer Spring is working on bringing him to CGCC  It is a big price tag- working on some grants  Need to find a venue  Karen says he is very inspirational.
