Press release

Kögel presents its second-generation FlexiUse tarpaulin trailer

Burtenbach, 18th September 2014

. Flexible deployment through two ride heights . More space due to the height-adjustable body . Individual options for load-securing

With the fully remodelled FlexiUse, Kögel is presenting a trailer designed for the widest possible range of transport tasks at the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2014. The Kögel FlexiUse is suited for the flexible use of various tractor units, with fifth-wheel heights of 990 to 1180 mm in unloaded state. Thanks to the large adjustment range, the body can be easily adapted to these fifth-wheel heights. Thus the trailer is not just able to do more tasks, it also saves forwarding companies time and money.

The Kögel FlexiUse is based on the popular and well-proven Kögel best sellers, Cargo and Mega. Along with the familiar benefits such as the low maintenance costs and the high quality finishing, this also allows it to combine the individual strengths of both trailers - the volume of the Mega and the all-purpose suitability of the Cargo. Its two different ride heights allow a range of possible fifth-wheel coupling heights. The ground clearance is easily and automatically regulated when coupling the trailer through the appropriate connection to the two coupling heads present. This will ensure fast re-coupling and thus flexible route planning.

New body: Adjustable for a wide range of uses The trailer body includes six front and three or now also the option of four rear settings, each adjustable by 50 millimetres. The body height can be adjusted by 300 millimetres at the front and 150 or 200 millimetres at the rear, the one independently of the other. This allows general goods with a clear internal height from 2,700 millimetres in the front and 2,800 or 2,850 millimetres in the rear as well as volume goods of up to 3,000 millimetres and optionally 3,050 millimetres clear internal height to be transported. The mechanical/hydraulic FlexiUse lifting equipment with its 600 millimetres lifting height provides for optimal loading and unloading of three stacked pallet cages. Using the variable heights, cargo volumes of up to 100 m³ are possible. This will also substantially help to reduce expensive empty trips. The new closing support bow on the roof ensures that the aluminium back wall portal door with optimised door seal fitted as standard in the FlexiUse is adjusted to the respective body height. The body of course meets the body stability standards of DIN EN 12642 Code XL, making any additional load-securing unnecessary for form- fitted loads. Thanks to the use of the standard Kögel integral roof tarpaulin, there are no straps left hanging down when the roof is open because they are integrated into the roof tarpaulin. This means that the straps cannot get tangled up when loading and unloading.

Individual load-securing features The Kögel FlexiUse presented at the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2014 is equipped with the optional load-securing packages for the transport of octabins and beverages. The octabin package consists of three rows of octabin reversible slats, two rows of steel C-profiles, a series of aluminium insertable slats or lattices and aluminium telescoping load- securing beams to secure the load in or against the direction of travel. As individual equipment for the safe transport of beverage crates and barrels there are three rows of aluminium insertable slats or lattices and

Life Cycle Costs: low running costs and high resale value The trailer's flexibility in usage will naturally have a positive effect on its resale value. In addition, thanks to its standard 385/55 R 22.5 tyres and to its large disc brakes with a diameter of 430 millimetres, the FlexiUse also scores very low on life cycle costs.

Cathodic dip-paint coating: lasting protection against corrosion In the Kögel FlexiUse, the entire trailer frame is given long-lasting protection against corrosion by nano-ceramic and cathodic dip-paint coating, supplemented with UV lacquering.
