Austin Seven Gordon England Cup model- engine specification.

The engine has been overhauled and tuned to a specification used by Gordon England, when he raced his Austins in the late 20-ies. After assemblied the engine the car has run for 2 ours and the engine runs very nicely. No work has been done on other parts of the car.

Cylinder block

To assure efficent cooling of the engine the two cast iron plugs in each end of the block were taken away to reach to the water galleries. After taking away lots of deposits in the galleries the plug seats were machined flat to fit flat brass plugs with fiber washers. This makes it much easier to maintain the block in the future.

The block has been bored to +.020” with new pistons.

New valves with oversize inlets, new springs and cups and collets, new valve guides.

New water inlet manifold with special bevelled washers and neoprene rings round the studs.

New cylinder head studs, nuts and washers.

The inlets and exhaust ports have been machined and polished to fit the manifolds and the bigger inlet valves.

Crankcase

After taking the connecting rods away, the big ends were checked and measured and were in very good condition. The same with the big end bearings. The crankshaft ran very nicely in its bearings, so we left the crank in the crankcase. When assembling the connecting rods and the new pistons new clamp bolts and tab washers were fitted on the small ends.

Reprofiled camshaft with higher lift and longer duration from Paul Bonewell.

A steel ring was pressed on to the fan pulley to match a rubber seal instead of the old felt one.

Cylinder Head

For better gas-flow in the combustion chamber and better cooling of the engine a new cylinder head was chosed. It is an Ricardo aluminium head with 18 mm spark plugs.
