Job Title: Programme Manager Responsible to: Education Manager Job Purpose: To deliver the ‘Aiming Higher’ programme and support Business in the Community’s education programmes for young people. Aiming Higher is a joint initiative with Include Youth, which supports young people who have been in care to move into education, training and employment through business connections and mentoring. Salary: £20–25K Contract: Fixed-term 12 months (full-time post however part- time working will be considered). Location: Belfast based (travel throughout NI will however be required).

Purpose of the job An exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team to deliver an inspiring programme for young people who have been in care, helping them move into education, training or employment with help from Business in the Community’s member businesses. The post also involves supporting our suite of employee volunteering programmes to support schools and charities. The post holder must have the ability to identify, develop and build relationships with influencers and key contacts in organisations, businesses and schools. It is important that the post holder is an outgoing team player who is comfortable in engaging with people at any level of an organisation. You must share our passion for corporate responsibility.

Main responsibilities The main responsibility of this post will be to project manage the Aiming Higher project, helping to recruit and support business mentors, support young people with their transition into education, training or employment, and co-ordinate work inspiration days for young people. In addition the role will require supporting Business in the Community’s wider work in communities, including connecting businesses with schools and charities to share skills and expertise.

Specifically the post will involve: 1. Helping to promote Aiming Higher to key stakeholders and in particular referral agents such as social workers and Health Trusts, to identify appropriate young people to participate. 2. Recruiting and engaging business mentors from Business in the community member businesses to support the programme through a range of activities including mentoring, workplace visits and work experience. 3. Co-facilitate in the delivery of accredited training of business mentors with Include Youth. 4. To effectively manage and oversee business mentors and young people participating in the programme and keep a record of young people and their progress for evaluation purposes 5. Co-facilitate weekly Aiming Higher sessions for young people with the support of Include Youth. 6. Monitoring project progress and helping to measure impact for project funder. 7. Supporting other Business in the Community projects on a needs basis, including educational programmes such as ‘Business Class’ (partnering businesses with schools) and employee volunteering initiatives to support charities. 8. To work with Business in the Community member companies in a wider capacity including the possible addition of relationship management responsibilities.

Additional responsibilities 1. The post holder may be required to carry out other duties that are reasonably to be considered as within the scope and purpose of the job and the aptitudes of the job holder. 2. To provide support to the wider Business in the community team on a needs basis.

Essential 1. At least two years’ experience of working with unemployed young people, including clear understanding of their needs and supporting them through personal development/ employability support. 2. Proven track record of planning and delivering projects with successful outcomes and the ability to work on a number of projects at one time. 3. Experience of working with a range of stakeholders and across different sectors (private, public and community) to achieve outcomes. 4. Experience of managing conflicting demands, meeting deadlines and adjusting priorities. 5. Excellent communication, presentation and marketing skills. 6. Experience of working collaboratively within a team, across an organisation and externally within a complex set of partnerships. 7. Demonstrable track record as a self-starter with an ability to capitalise on opportunities as they present themselves and respond at the appropriate pace. 8. Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills - networking, negotiating and understanding and responding to the priorities of client schools and companies are key features of the role. 9. The ability to demonstrate excellent organisational and analytical skills. 10. Good IT skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.

Applicants must possess a full current driving licence and a car available for business use OR access to a form of transport for business use which will enable the requirements of the post to be met in full.

Experience of working with charities and voluntary/community groups. 4. Experience of working with businesses and relationship/account management. 5. An understanding of and strong empathy with corporate responsibility issues. 6. Experience of identifying funding opportunities and writing bid applications.

What are my hours? The standard working day is 9:00 – 5:00 pm with an hour for lunch each day. Flexible arrangements are possible.
