Copy this flyer and give it to each of your scouts and your adult committee. Are your Scouts prepared before Merit Badge Day? 2. Make sure the Scout is Registered, and your Counselors are Registered & Approved for each badge (counselors in this packet are o.k.). Have a discussion with the Scout about badges that interest him or he has started, & help choose badges appropriate for him. 3. Give the Scout a BLUE CARD, signed by You (on the front only, under the Scout’s name and address). 4. Tell your scouts they MUST read the requirements in the current merit badge pamphlet of their choice, & then call the Counselor, who has the right to refuse admission to a scout who has not called, prepared properly, or who does not have a signed Blue Card. 5. Please encourage your scouts to wear their FULL “CLASS A” UNIFORM on Merit Badge Day! SCOUTS: In order to have a smooth running, successful day for you, we need your help! Boy Scout Motto: BE PREPARED! 1. Choose 1 merit badge in the morning & 1 badge in the afternoon. If you choose an All-Day class, you will earn only 1 badge. (A Scout may be able to finish/fit-in an extra merit badge if schedule and prior preparation permit.) 2. Read MOST RECENT pamphlets for badges you choose--see Year next to badge name. Scout Shops will have the latest books. 3. You may develop an interest-in & start a Merit Badge on your own, before you visit with the SM & get a signed Blue Card. 4. Visit with & get a BLUE CARD from your Scoutmaster--ask Scoutmaster to sign it once only, under your Name/Address section. To the SCOUT: YOU need to “know how to” print SO WE CAN READ IT! Your Name, Address, Phone#, Email, Troop#, District & Council, correct Badge Names from this list, & your Scoutmaster’s name; Practice! (Ours is Rio Hondo district; & GLAAC council.) 5. You, the SCOUT (not Mom or Dad), CALL the COUNSELOR IMMEDIATELY to get permission/reserve a space in class! Ask counselor questions about prerequisites & any pens/pencils, paperwork, projects, equipment, etc. you need to bring. You must complete prerequisites listed in this packet (plus any other things counselor tells you about) before MB Day. 6. Prepare: Read! Re-read MB book! Do badge prerequisites! Fill out any worksheets you want to download. Bring to MB Day. 7. Find/wear a FULL SCOUT UNIFORM. CAMOUFLAGE, SWEATS, AND T-SHIRTS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE AND YOU WILL BE SENT HOME. COMPLETE UNIFORMS ONLY (not Sash; that’s for SM Conf/Boards of Review/Courts of Honor). 8. Bring: Blue Cards, Merit Badge Books, counselor prereqs, worksheets, Sack Lunch or $5, Jacket/name inside; & be in Uniform! 9. Remember: Classes close after the first 10 minutes.
